Ever since Bethesda releasedmod support forThe Elder Scrolls 5: SkyrimandFallout 4on PS4 and Xbox One, it has opened up a whole new world for console players. Now with the release of next-gen consoles, fans have more of a reason to return to these popular Bethesda titles which are now capable of running at 60FPS and 4K resolution onXbox Series X.
Backward compatibility has been a well-received user-friendly feature on both PS5 andXbox Series Xthis generation, especially on the latter. While most AAA publishers have already announced or released next-gen updates for their respective titles, Bethesda has been awfully quiet about their next-gen plans. Titles likeFallout 76andElder Scrolls Onlinehave yet to receive a next-gen patch that would allow these games to run at 60FPS on these powerful consoles. Unfortunately forFallout 4, which was supposed to receive a next-gen patch on Xbox Series X at launch, it still runs at 30FPS.

As it seems, fans have taken things into their own hands toupgrade titles likeFallout 4andSkyrimon Xbox Series X. Players can now download an unofficial mod called Uncap FPS which allow these titles to run at 60FPS and 4K resolution. What it does is disable the v-sync, which in return, unlocks the game’s FPS. While this works on Xbox Series X and supposedly on Xbox Series S, the PS5 version doesn’t benefit from this. However, since it’s still a mod, it’s important to note that enabling the Uncap FPS mod will disable player achievements.
The Uncap FPS mod was originally made for Xbox One by Smudgey5000, however, due to the limitations of Xbox One hardware, it wasn’t fully realized back then. Fortunately, Xbox Series X/S players can take full advantage of it now. However, enabling it is not that simple as it seems. To make this mod work properly, players will have to close the game once it’s downloaded, installed and activated. Booting it up after that will make it work.
Uncapped FPS forSkyrimon Xbox Series X will be a major reason for many people going back to this critically acclaimed title in the coming weeks and months. As Reddit user annathetravelbanana pointed out, many of the graphical mods also work on Xbox Series X, allowing it to look almost like a current-gen title. WithSkyrimnow available on Xbox Game Pass, diving back into its snowy landscapes this holiday seasonmay be the perfect time for fans.
