With over1.2 million online players– a figure that’s only growing by the day – Bungie’sDestiny 2has a seriously expansive and admirably dedicated community that invests hours of time into beating the sequel title’s raids, overcoming its bosses, and scooping up the new-and-improved tools the game has to offer. As it turns out, Xbox head Phil Spencer is one of those many fans of the game, and has been working tirelessly to up his ranking and snag his favorite in-game weapon.
Speaking in an interview with GameSpot during the Brazil Game Show on October 12, Spencer dished up details on hisDestiny 2habits, like keeping his fireteam and (on occasion) his Xbox Live party settings open so players around the world can join him by tapping his P3 tag, as well as his biggest gameplay goals.
While he plays, Spencer does have to kick others out from time to time – but not for the reason one may think. Despite logging substantial time intoDestiny 2, andplaying 700 hours ofDestiny, the Xbox exec isn’t at a high enough level to participate in end-game activities, such as the ever-popular Leviathan raid. At the time of the interview, Spencer revealed that his character, an Awoken Titan, sits at Power Level 237; players must reach the recommended level of 260 to play the raid. Spencer joked that his inadequate Power status “keeps him awake at night,” a self-imposed pressure that seems to have worked, as his public page on Destinytracker states that he’s now at Power Level 241.
Beyond his focus on upping his in-game status, Spencer has his eyes locked in on one well-lovedDestiny 2weapon: the Mida Multi-Tool. Spencer revealed that he really enjoyed using the weapon in the originalDestiny, and is looking to pick it up again in the sequel.
The Mida Multi-Tool is an Exotic Scout Rifle that comes bundled with perks that increase move speed and maintain radar visibility while aiming down sights. In the firstDestinygame, the weapon was available through random drops and vendor purchases, but theway to get the Mida Multi-ToolinDestiny 2is by completing a quest line in order to unlock it.
Spencer wrapped up his thoughts on the sequel by stating that he’s disappointed Bungie isn’t allowing him to play his character on thePC versionofDestiny 2right now. That edition doesn’t launch until October 24, a little less than two weeks away, but given his clout in the industry, someone may be able to pull some strings and secure him with early access. Perhaps then he can finally get his hands on his sought-after Mida Multi-Tool.
Destiny 2is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is set to arrive for PC on July 15, 2025.
