There’s an ongoing controversy onTwitchover the use of the word “cracker” and whether or not it constitutes a racial slur. Twitch and its moderators have categorized it as such, resulting in some high profile bans on people who’ve used the word.Twitch banned Hasanearlier this month for using the word and it has handed out bans to other streamers as well, with the latest being Erind “Froste” Puka.

Froste is a fairly popular variety Twitch streamer who is mostly known for his Just Chatting streams. On December 26, Froste revealed that Twitch banned him for calling fellow streamer Flyroh a “cracker” in his chat. This is Froste’s third-ever Twitch ban and it’s unclear exactly how long it will last. Thelength of Twitch bans are inconsistentto say the least, and so fans don’t know exactly when Froste’s Twitch channel will be restored.

Froste has issued an appeal toTwitchto try getting his ban reversed, claiming that he was referring to the food crackers and asking Twitch to “please unban.” Froste shared a screenshot of his Twitch ban appeal with the comment “Wish me luck fellas” and a praying emoji.

Froste called Twitch “cringe” for the ban and said that the streaming platform will become like MySpace for situations like this. However, Twitch remains the most popular streaming platform in the world and that seems unlikely to change, especially with thefinancial backing of Amazon behind it. That being said, there have been numerous high profile Twitch streamers that have jumped ship from Twitch to stream on other platforms.

At one point Microsoft was trying to push Mixer as a Twitch competitor and signed the likes of Ninja and Shroud to exclusivity contracts to do so. With Mixer’s demise, the hot new destination for Twitch streamers has been YouTube, with TimTheTatman,Ludwig, and others all deciding to leave Twitch to stream exclusively on YouTube. They were preceded bytop streamers like Valkyraeand Dr Disrespect, though the latter moved to YouTube after he was banned from Twitch for reasons that still have yet to be revealed to the general public.

As for Froste, he doesn’t appear to be making the jump to YouTube and seems to be planning on a Twitch return. He said that he is going to use the next seven days to “revamp” his stream and produce a proper stream schedule. It’s unclear if his ban will be over by the time those seven days are up or not.
