Hogwarts Mystery’s Story Deserves a Hogwarts Legacy-like Remake
Released in April 2018,Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mysteryis set right after the birth of the titular scarred hero, but before he gets to Hogwarts. Players take control of their very own custom Hogwarts student, who arrives at the school in 1984 to start their first year.Hogwarts Mysteryhas been continuously updated over the last five years, with each major update adding a new chapter that signifies another year of schooling for the player-character. And whileHogwarts Mysteryhasn’t quite wrapped up just yet, its story is already worth retelling in another format.
Hogwarts Mysteryrevolves around the player-character trying to discover what happened to their older brother Jacob, who was expelled from Hogwarts during the 1970s for being obsessed with a series of dark magic tombs known as Cursed Vaults. Over the course of their time at Hogwarts, the player starts to learn more and more about these Cursed Vaults, and how a few of them have been opened, leading to Boggart attacks on the school and students falling under a sleepwalking curse. This tale takes players all throughoutHogwarts Castle and its grounds, as well as the Forbidden Forest, and the player meets plenty of familiar faces along the way.
During their journey, players will be guided by Albus Dumbledore and Hagrid. They meet fellow students like Bill, Fred, and George Weasley, along witha young Cedric Diggory. Other teachers like Snape, Hagrid, McGonagall, and Flitwick all make frequent appearances throughoutHogwarts Mysteryas well, teaching the player countless iconicHarry Potterspells.
WhileHogwarts Mysterycertainly has its fair share of fans, it hasn’t had nearly the same exposure asHogwarts Legacy, and it’s certainly a story worth sharing with as wide of an audience as possible.Hogwarts Mysteryshould actually be remade in the style ofHogwarts Legacy.Hogwarts Legacyhas already laid the foundation for future games set at Hogwarts, with the open-world already made and ready to be populated, all aHogwarts Legacy-styleHogwarts Mysteryremake would need to do is add in some new characters, modernize some interior decorations, and add a few more modern landmarks like the Whomping Willow. One of the biggest downsides ofHogwarts Legacyis that players don’t get to interact with any characters that they know from theHarry Potterseries, and it would be great to experience that in a sequel alongside a story that actually affects the students at Hogwarts.
Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4, the Nintendo Switch version is arriving July 28, 2025.
