Michael Schur, the mastermind behind NBC’s beloved afterlife comedyThe Good Place, is teaming up with series star Ted Danson for a new serialized comedy. It looks like the dream collaboration between the two will live on, much to the delight of viewers everywhere.

Danson will star inThe Mole Agent, a new series based on 2020’s Oscar-nominated Chilean documentary of the same name. Unlike previous Schur projects likethe endlessly popularParks and RecreationandBrooklyn Nine-Nine, this one will have one foot in reality as it presumably adapts the documentary’s supposedly true (albeit comfortably surreal) premise. It appears as though it may appeal to a similar audience asThe Good Place, with a likely mix of humor and heartfelt moments. At least, that’s what the subject matter would suggest.

According toDeadline,The Mole Agentwill feature Danson as an elderly man recruited by a private investigator to go undercover in a nursing home. The original documentary by Maite Alberdi follows the real-life duo who pulled this off in Chile. The infiltration was due to a client of the PI, who claimed the nursing home was mistreating her mother. So the investigator, Rómulo, and his undercover agent, Sergio, take it upon themselves to root out the allegedly abusive staff.

Much like a recent episode ofRian Johnson’s potentially limitless murder mystery seriesPoker Face,The Mole Agent’s main draw will reportedly be Danson’s character forging bonds with the other residents of the care facility as he attempts to figure things out. The documentary saw Sergio do the same, which added a refreshingly human element to the whole story. Given Danson’s endearing performance as a demon who slowly learns what it means to be human inThe Good Place, he sounds like the perfect choice to inject equal parts comedy and heartfelt vibes into this new role.

Danson and Schur boast impressive resumes that make them perfect for this project. Schur’s previous shows should already be enough to prove his versatility between humor and tenderness, particularly withThe Good Place. Meanwhile,Danson’s successful time onCheersprimed him for a comedy career. Playing a womanizing bartender who discovers some women don’t like being, uh, “ized,” his role as Sam Malone set the stage for countless more of depth and quality throughout the years since.

So withThe Mole Agent, it’s almost not even a matter of whether it will be good. It’s more about what kind of good it will be. Currently, no network or streaming service has officially acquired it. But Schur and Danson are enough to perk up the ears of anybody looking for some guaranteed laughs.
