Pokemon Scarlet and Violetadded avariety of new Pokemon with the ninth generationof the franchise. This even included a few new options for players determined to use Poison-type Pokemon on their team. Although poison-type moves are only super effective against both grass and Fairy-type Pokemon, it is also one of the eighteen types to only have two weaknesses of its own.
Gamers who are looking for a great Poison ally should look no further than these new Pokemon as well as some of these golden choices from past franchises that have once again made an appearance in the new title.

With a collection of both new and old Pokemon available, players have an assortment of poison types to choose from, including those that combine types, such as a Ground Poison monster, or even an Electric type combined with the Poison type. Their distinct damage-over-time abilities can really disrupt an opponent and serve as great options for more strategic battlers. The two added DLCs have added more of these lethal types back, including some fan favorites like Venusaur and Vileplume. As such, it was time to revisit this list and add even more awesome Poison-types found in Scarlet and Violet, as well as the Teal Mask and Indigo Disk.

This fanged, venenous snake was first introduced in the third generation, and has slithered its way intoScarlet and Violet, specifically inArea Three and Five in Paldea.This beast not only possesses large fangs, but also hard black scales and a blade-like tail ready to stab at targets in its vicinity.
With the potential to poison its enemies in various ways, along with fairly high Special Attack and raw Attack power, this snake can win the war of attrition pretty effectively. While its unevolved form started among the initial Pokemon lineup as a tough-but-sluggish monster, Slowking has shaped up into a formidable Pokemon boasting useful elementals. Its default form is Water/Psychic, but its Galarian form swaps the Water element for Poison. It’s a great debuff pairing with Psychic, as both elements can wear down opponents in several ways.
As one would expect, its speed is lacking, but it makes up for it in almost every other area. Not only can it learn countless potent TMs, but it boasts a range of offensive as well as subtly effective status moves. This diversity of tricks up Slowking’s sleeve makes it a crafty, unpredictable fight and quite disruptive for opponents.

This sinister grinning Ghost-type has long been a fan-favorite since debuting among the initial 151 Pokemon. Yet, it saw new life inScarlet and Violet,gaining an edge with its potent Special Attackabilities.
Gengar can be a force to be reckoned with, and despite its low Defense, can be a hard out as it’s resistant to several more common types. By reaching just level 24, it can use the impactful Ghost moveHex,and by level 60 it can utterly wipe out targets with the 100-power Psychic moveDream Eater.

Introduced in the seventh generation, this toxic spiky monster has somewhathidden under the radar as a great Poison/Water-type. For one, it’s the only Pokemon that can learn the useful moveBaneful Bunker.This status move can both poison the attacker and wipe out all effects of moves that target the tough Toxapex.

In the ninth generation of thePokemonfranchise, Wooper finally received its ownnew Paldean formwhere instead of being a dual-type of Water and Ground, it was instead Poison and Ground. This, therefore, meant that Wooper also came with a new evolution where it transformed into the spiny fish Pokemon known as Clodsire.
Unfortunately, Clodsire is one of the weakest poison types players can have on their team (at least in terms of Special Attack), as Paldean Wooper can be found quite early into a player’s adventure. Evolving it into Clodsire is a great idea for an early Poison and Ground-type to pick up.

Although the evolution pattern doesn’t make sense for Grafaiai due to its previous evolution being a toxic mouse Pokemon, somehow, this Normal and Poison-type becomes the toxic monkey Grafaifai. While Normal-types on their own aren’t very effective due to not being strong against anything, coupling this up with Poison gives Grafaifai more of a chance in battle.
Players shouldn’t be fooled byits cute appearance, as it has been known to draw poisonous patterns on trees that will draw in Bug Pokemon for it to eat. Another great reason to have this poisonous creature is that it’s the only Pokemon that can learn the moveDoodle, which allows the Pokemon to copy the abilities of its enemy.

Joining Pokemon from as early as the third generation of the franchise. Swalot may not be new to the region of Paldea, but that doesn’t stop it from being a viable option when deciding on a great Poison-type to bring to the Grass gym leader’s battle.
As purely a Poison-type as well, this will also mean players don’t need to worry about other weaknesses that this poison bag Pokemon may be injured by. Its pre-evolution Gulpin can also be found quite early into a player’s travels, and therefore it can also be evolved quickly around level twenty-six.

Another favored Pokemon that was originally revealed in generation four, Skuntank is a brilliant addition to any player’s roster who is looking for the perfect matchup of both poison and darkness. While this skunk may look quite unassuming, Skuntank is another pocket monster withan incredibly high attack statthat makes sure every hit counts.
Evolving from Stunky, this Pokemon can be found with either the ability ofStench or Aftermath;both of these can be incredibly useful in battle, with Aftermath causing damage after Skuntank has passed out to Stench having a small percent chance of causing the opposing Pokemon to flinch when it attempts to attack.

Dragalge combines the lethal power of a Dragon-type Pokemon with the lasting effects of a poison type. Once evolving this Mock Kelp Pokemon at level forty-eight, players will have their very own underwater dragon that is sure to do some damage to their opponents.
It is, however, important to note that Dragalge is aPokemon Scarletexclusive, and therefore, while Scarlet players can find this Pokemon roaming in the wild, those that have theVioletversion of the game will need to trade with a Scarlet player.

Although anew paradox versionof this mushroom Pokemon was added exclusively toPokemon Scarlet, Brute Bonnet replaces its Poison-typing with Dark instead. Luckily, this means both those who ownScarlet or Violetcan still catch an Amoonguss for themselves in the wild.
Unlike its newest ancestor, this Pokemon has been in the game since the fifth generation ofPokemonand still remains a great option to bring into battle if a player needs a Poison-type, especially as it combines its power with one of its own weaknesses by also being a Grass-type.
