Fire Emblem Engagehas a wide variety of classes that are spread across each unit that the player recruits during their adventure to defeat the Fell Dragon. While many of the characters have recommended routes for players to follow to make sure they make themthe most powerful possibleplayers are also able to freely switch the unit’s class to something else.

After completing the game once players may wish to challenge themselves by attempting to switch up the fighting style of a character by turning them into something else that can easily wipe out a team. Surprisingly, some characters actually benefit more when transformed into a different class.

What Alternate Class To Put Characters Into

With thirty-six units available to recruit throughoutFire Emblem Engage, it may get confusing to remember what other class may be best to change that character into. Thankfully this grid puts every unit from the start to the finish of the game into a perfect list that can be accessed at any point to better understand and find out what class to transform the character into.

For players that don’t understandhow to swap a unit’s classthis can simply be done by using a Second Seal which can be found in certain chapters or purchased from the item shop on the Somniel. Players may feel that it is also best to not swap the class of every single unit on their team as some possess unit classes that other characters aren’t able to access.

Alear going through a class change in Fire Emblem Engage

Alear

Sword Fighter

Although the main protagonist Alear may start in the exclusive class of Dragon Child which can eventually be advanced to Divine Dragon. Some players may wish to instead shy away from the role in a second attempt of the game and Sword Fighter is a great way to do it. Due to Alear’s high dexterity they are able to hit more than once making Alear into a brilliant front range unit that can carry their own.

Alcryst

Thief

While it’s better to keep Alcryst in his usual line of class advancement especially as one of the strongest archers in the game. Those that want to mix it up for a change may wish to transform Alcryst into the special class of a thief. The second prince of Brodia has a strong speed and dexterity stat that will lead greatly into fulfilling this role.

Alfred

Lance Armor

Arguably Alfred is one of the weakest characters players will recruit during their adventures ofFire Emblem Engageand thankfully due to recruiting him early into their journey he can be changed quickly. Alfred does have an impressive defense stat growth and therefore handing him a set of bulky armor as a Lance Armor can really increase his chance of survival in each chapter.

Anna

Mage

Although when Anna first joins the player’s party she’s an Axe Fighter, but she isn’t a very good one. This is because her stat growths actually favor that of a magic build. Therefore, players should consider transforming Anna into a mage as soon as possible in order to capitalize on these growths and turn her into an unrelenting magic user.

Amber

Bow Knight

It may be surprising to turn Amber into a Bow Knight, especially after recruiting both Alcryst and Etie, but Amber will eventually become a powerful unit this way. Not only does this balance his stats but also adds some further mobile bow users to the team which the player may be lacking.

Boucheron

Axe Cavalier

Boucheron is another brilliant unit that is strong in his original class of Axe Fighter. However, for those that are looking for more mobility in their roster placing Boucheron on a horse to become an Axe Cavalier isn’t a bad idea. He already has a great health stat which will make his time on horseback a lot easier than those that start like this class.

Bunet

Swordmaster

Bunet is one of the few characters players recruit that already start as an advanced class due to appearing later in the game. This means instead of transforming him back into a base class, a player may wish to change him into an alternate advanced class. The chef has not only a fair amount of health but also a large dexterity making him into a brilliant Swordmaster that can strike multiple times against one enemy.

Celine

Celine is a brilliant magic user that can also strike enemies down with a sword due to her unique class. For players that are hoping to shy away from the recommended turning Celine into a mage early on can have great benefits for turning her into the advanced class of Sage with a high enough luck to regularly hit critical.

Chloe

Lance Fighter

With few flying units readily available to the player it may come as a shock to first remove Chloe from her Pegasus, though this is for a good cause. Turning this early game unit into a lance fighter will open up the chance for Chloe to eventually become a Royal Knight allowing her to take on her fairy tale dream from a story perspective. Her high health and speed means she would make a brilliant front line unit.

Citrinne

Lance Flier

While mages may be few and far between inFire Emblem Engage, some players may feel that their teams lacks units that can quickly fly across the sky also. Citrinne is a great example of a mage unit that can easily take on an alternate role like the Lance Flier due to her high magic allowing her a greater resistance to it.

Clanne

Another questionable change at the start of the game is turning the player’s only magic user into one that can only wield a sword. When putting this aside and taking a look at Clanne’s stats it can be seen that due to his impressive speed and decent health with a bit of work Clanne can eventually make a strong Swordmaster to replace others.

Diamant

Sword Cavalier

The crowned prince of Brodia makes for an impressive sword wielder, although his advanced class of Successor may be a brilliant direction to take him. Following in the footsteps of a sword cavalier can lead to some essential resistances for Diamant. Mobility is something many players may struggle with at the beginning of the game and therefore changing others to make up for this can be crucial to completing chapters.

Etie

Axe Fighter

If players choose not to change Alcryst into any other class he can make up the space for almost every other bow user in the game. Therefore, making all other bow users quite useless if there is no risk of losing such a unit. Players should instead invest in switching these classes for something that may be as essential such as an Axe Fighter since Etie has both the strength and speed to hit for a decent amount of damage.

Fogado

Archer

Although this may not change Fogado that much as he continues to be a devilish shot with the bow. Players that may have lost Alcyrst early into the story through classic mode may need to find a replacement and Fogado is a great option for this. High speed and dexterity means Fogado can be turned into a deadly sniper that wipes out any enemy from a distance with little need to be protected.

Framme

Framme is quite a difficult unit to re-class into any other class available inFire Emblem Engage, though her stats do allow for her to become a fairly useful mage. Although it may essentially mean following the same path later on of becoming a High Priest, allowing her to grow this magic stat further can make for a great damaging unit if heals are not something the player needs.

Goldmary

Griffin Knight

Goldmary is another unit that players will recruit that already comes as an advanced class and therefore swapping her to another one may be the best way to keep her stats so high. Although Goldmary has a weak growth in magic turning her into a Griffin Knight still has its strengths due to her high health avoiding usual damage and lethal axe attacks.

Hortensia

High Priest

While it may remove her mobility as it takes Hortensia away from her Wyvern, the High Priest allows Hortensia to continue her role as a healer as well as a magic user with a little extra added on top. Having more units that can use combat arts means players have extra ways to break enemies using bows, magic, or knives and therefore open them up to attacks easier.

Ivy

Sage

Dropping the Wyvern once again with Ivy may look like a downgrade from the power she can inflict while dominating the skies, however, Ivy is allowed to take her magic even further through being a grounded unit. While players will need to assist her when it comes to speed, Ivy will naturally grow into an incredibly lethal sage that will demolish foes with her insane amount of magical prowess.

Jade

Axe Flier

Unfortunately, this does take Jade out of the armor she so loves to wear when meditating, however it’s essential in making her a lethal goddess of the sky. With few characters at the start of the game flying and no character starting as an axe flier either. Those that believe damage is more important than defense will want to swap Jade quickly in a hope of making her a Wyvern Knight later on.

Jean

Jean is by far one of the easier character to switch between different classes, this is firstly due to joining the roster at level one as well as having the skill of Expertise which doubles all his stat growths. Therefore, players are free to turn Jean into anything they wish to fit the gaps, though Mage may be an interesting idea to increase the damage done by the team.

Kagetsu

Paladin

Players may feel that their roster already has too many units that have been using swords and therefore diversifying through swapping classes out to use other weapons is something that can help balance a team. Kagetsu may be a brilliant Swordmaster, but Paladin allows him to cross maps quickly while also dealing with pesky mages along the way.

Lapis

Sword Armor

Lapis is a resilient sword user, but she gets quickly replaced by other units as the player advances the story. Therefore, to keep the usefulness of Alcryst’s retainer re-classing her into a Sword Armor unit allows her to continue this role of being a protector while also being easy to do due to her already being proficient in swords.

Lindon

Mage Knight

Lindon is an incredibly late game character players has the chance to recruit. Starting as a High Priest, he’s already an incredibly helpful addition to the roster if players are lacking units that can keep the party healed. Changing Lindon into a Mage Knight drops the chance of heals and combat arts but focuses him on magic as well as magic weaponry.

Louis

Lance Cavalier

As the first armored unit players obtain it seems rather cruel to instantly change him into something else, however, with such a great health stat Louis makes for an excellent Lance Cavalier unit alongside Alfred. Armored units are quite slow and tend to get left behind during battles, swapping him into something quicker means he’s more likely to get hits on enemies as well as taking on the damage for others.

Mauvier

Mauvier is the second to last character players will recruit to their roster and therefore unless they wish to dedicate time to leveling him up, it’s unlikely that players will change his class. If this were to be the case turning him into a Sage isn’t that surprising especially due to his surprisingly strong magic stat. His various resistances also mean he is less likely to die compared to a players usual mage.

Merrin

Merrin starts off as an incredibly strong Wolf Knight that already allows her to use Knives while also being a nimble unit who commonly avoids getting hit by the foes that surround her. Focusing on this makes Merrin a great unit to transform into a Thief. It may remove her use of swords as well as her mobility, but this is a great trade-off for a unit that can survive all by herself.

Panette

Wolf Knight

Although an incredibly powerful Berserker, Panette can also make for a fairly useful Wolf Knight which allows players to make the most of one of the brand-new classes. Besides this, it also allows for players to have more knife wielding characters during a chapter which can deal a fair amount of poison damage, weakening foes.

Pandreo

Martial Master

Pandreo already has a fair share of ways to deal with enemies as well as being able to support the team through combat arts, spells, and staffs. Swapping out his class should instead focus on only a few of these things such as Martial Master that will allow him to heal allies while harnessing the power of martial arts.

Rosado

Royal Knight

Rosado is already a brilliant Wyvern Knight when players recruit him, though this does leave him open to attacks from bows quite frequently that can hinder his uses. Therefore, players should consider swapping him into a Royal Knight instead as this keeps the adorable unit defended while also continuing to be lethal.

Saphir

Out of all the characters available to recruit and use inFire Emblem Engage, Saphir has one of the best stat growths when it comes to her health. Although she’s an end game character it can still be beneficial to transform her into a Thief due to her gradual increase in speed and resistance as long as the player increases her dexterity.

Seadall

Seadall is the only character in the entire title that can be the class of Dancer, however if the player doesn’t plan on making the most of this class or is purposely avoiding using it then swapping Seadall into a Martial Master is the way to go. This will allow him to eventually use the S Ranking Combat Arts players may earn during their adventure.

Timerra

Hero

Similar to the other main characters of the game, Timerra is only character that can advance to the exclusive class of Picket. However, players may wish to instead focus on allowing Timerra to become a Hero which allows her to not only use lances but also swords, in order to do this, players must first earn the proficiency.

Vander

General

Vander is a character players get at the very start of the game as a crutch to help them through the early stages. Due to starting at an advanced class, players are free to change him into many other strong units. Players that are looking for further defense in their team should change Vander into a General if they are struggling.

Veyle

Veyle is another character that players don’t get until the very end of the game, she also has her own exclusive weaponry that only she can use in her exclusive class of the Fell Child. This aside, Veyle is quite weak for combat and therefore resorting to turning her into a High Priest may remove her using her own knife but allows her to support while still being able to do some lethal damage.

Yunaka

Besides being a brilliant Thief, Yunaka is also a trained assassin which makes her perfectly suited for a variety of blades. Therefore, players that don’t think her skills are best suited for being a Thief can instead change her into a Swordmaster to continue hitting multiple times during a single turn while being evasive of opposing attacks.

Zelkov

Although Zelkov is also a Thief his skills are better suited for a class such as Wolf Knight. He may continue to use knives while also allowing the player to harness other weaponry with him. Not to mention how this helps his evasiveness improve further.
