The roster ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis quite large and varied, featuring numerous characters from Nintendo franchises and beyond. One of the most represented series in the roster is thePokemonseries, having a total of eight playable fighters from the franchise.Super Smash Bros. Ultimatealso has a large modding community, with some creating some brand-new costumes for its characters. One modder was inspired to give two playable Pokemon fighters some costumes from the recently releasedPokemon Unite.
Pokemon Uniteis the latest installment in the franchise, taking the series into the ambitious MOBA genre of gaming. The game has a playable roster of both series fan-favorites and obscure creatures. Two of these fan-favorites includethe shinobi water ninja frog Greninja, and the aura Pokemon Lucario. Greninja is a ranged fighter with clones while Lucario is a lightning bruiser sweeper role for their team. Both of these Pokemon have unique cosmetics that can be bought through the use of tickets in Pokemon Unite, giving them some amazing costumes. This modder incorporated two of these costumes for theirSmash Ultimateiterations.

This mod was made by LN_310, a promiment modder in theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatescene. Under title of “Pokemon UniteModpack,” these two costumes are based off of Holowear purchasable in-game. For Greninja’s Holowear costume, it is based off of his Hero Style, making him look like a super hero. Meanwhile, Lucario gets a caped costume that is based off two trainers from the series. These include Sir Aaron from his movie debut and Riley from thePokemon DiamondandPearlgames. This latter costume was one that wasleaked beforePokemon Unite’s customization options were revealed.

As seen in the screenshots of the mod, both Pokemon’s costumes adhere to their original designs fromPokemon Unite. Lucario’s costume makes him not only look incredibly dapper, but also quite powerful, much likeLucario’s role inPokemon Unite. Greninja’s Holowear costume makes him look incredibly heroic, making him look like he’s ready to strike down any evildoers in his path. Each tiny detail from the costume’s designs are retained in this mod, including things like Greninja’s scarf to Lucario’s bag.
The reaction to these costumes has been overall positive so far, much likePokemon Unite’s Holowear. These costumes are incredibly unique, and aren’t just simple palette swaps for them. Mods like these show the amount of work and dedication that fans have for these characters, giving them creative new looks.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
