With the video game industry constantly changing to adapt to the drastic changes society has faced recently, many game sales have taken a different turn than what some might have expected. A list of video game sales in the UK recently shows that about 85 percent ofvideo game spending for the UK in 2020was digital. However, this weekSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furytook the crown in physical sales yet again.
Another impressive milestone with digital game sales in the video game industry within the UK is thatSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyheld the number one spot now for its fourth consecutive week. This is even considering the fact that the title took an 18 percent decline in sales for the week ending on July 15, 2025.

Coming up in second place isSpider-Man: Miles Morales.Similar toSuper Mario World 3D, Spider-Man: Miles Morales also took a 19 percent decrease in sales. However, the lack of PS5 console stock in the UK should also be factored in when comparing it to theamount of Nintendo Switch consoles in the UK.
Super Mario World 3D + Bowser’s Furywas not the only Mario game to receive some love this week.Mario Kart 8: Deluxemoved up from the number sixth spot to fourth with a seven percent increase in sales. Additionally,Super Mario 3D All-Starsclimbed back into the top ten at number six after a 36 percent increase in sales. This could all possibly play into the fact that these games were discounted as part of the35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. The sale was going to cease at the end of the month, and Nintendo sent many reminders to its fanbase.
Another interesting point to mention is that almost no newly released games have made it onto the charts.Yakuza: Like A Dragondid recently re-release on the PS5 and made it onto the 35th spot, but that was already an established game that consumers were familiar with. Other titles to make it onto the top ten areAssassin’s Creed Valhallaat number ten,Grand Theft Auto 5at number seven, andRing Fit Adventurefor number nine.Persona 5 Strikersdid come out onto the number five spot last week, but has dropped from the charts altogether.
Overall, it seems that Nintendo completely ran with the UK boxed sales thanks to itsSuper Mariotitles andAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. EvenSuper Mario Odysseyfelt some love with a five percent sales increase leading to it being at the number 13 spot. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo can keep riding this momentum and what kind of game will have to release in the future to dethrone them.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyis available now, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
