Dong-hyuk spoke toVarietyaboutSquid Gameseason 2and revealed that the next batch of episodes will not be ready any time before the end of next year. This means that the season could likely air sometime in 2024 as well. With the first season having premiered in September 2021, this means that fans will have to wait more than two years to see what’s next for Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun.
As part of his interview, Dong-hyuk also confirmed that he has “about three pages worth of ideas,” which he will be using to write thescript forSquid Gameseason 2. No details of the season have been revealed thus far, and all that the creator can confirm is that “there will be more games.” Whether they will be based on children’s games once again remains to be seen, but judging by the first season, they are bound to be brutal. Only one winner can be chosen, which means other contestants will lose their lives.
At the end of the first season,Gi-hun is the sole survivorand the winner of the extremely violent games. Despite having gotten away, he decides to return to the secret island, hoping to end things once and for all. Only time will tell if he succeeds, but this time around things could potentially get more violent and political. Dong-hyuk teased that in the next season, “humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again.” His main intent is to find out whether “true solidarity between humans [is] possible.”
