Recently, rumors started making the rounds thatPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2was in active development for the PlayStation 5. While that rumor is plenty interesting on its own, what makes it perhaps even more compelling is that, if it’s true,PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2is the first PS5 exclusive game we know of that will be available for the new console at launch.

Of course, it’s quite possible that this rumor has nothing to it andPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2isn’t development at all. However, we know that video game studios have gotten their hands on PS5 dev kits, and with the PS5 likely to launch in the holiday 2020 season, it makes sense that games are already well into development for the next-generation console. Otherrumored PS5 launch titles includeThe Last of Us: Part 2andGhost of Tsushima.

The rumor also claims that Capcom is developing the game for Sony, which may seem odd at first glance, but actually makes quite a bit of sense. After all, Capcom has a history of working with other companies' IP. Capcom famously made theMarvel vs. Capcomfranchise, and it also developed someLegend of Zeldatitles for Nintendo. Considering this, Capcom seems like a strong choice if Sony really is pursuing aPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royalesequel. The original game was developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio, which is busy withGod of War, and SuperBot Entertainment, which hasn’t been heard from since 2014 and is considered defunct, so Sony would need to find someone to develop the game.

Besides potentially revealing thePlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2developer and its status as a PS5 launch title, the rumor also claims to reveal its roster. ThePlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2leaked rosterconsists of iconic PlayStation characters from the present and past, including Kratos, Nathan Drake, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and more.

It’s also worth pointing out that whilePlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2is reportedly going to be a launch exclusive for PS5, it apparently won’t stay exclusive forever. The rumor also says thatPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2will come to PC in 2021, as part of Sony’s initiative to expand the PlayStation brand beyond its home consoles.

Again, we must stress that none of this information is verified and it’s quite possible thatPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2doesn’t exist at all. There have beenrumors ofPlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2in the past, but nothing ever came from them. We’ll likely have to wait for the official PS5 reveal to learn more.
