Team Ninja’s producer and director, Fumihiko Yasuda, commented on howRise of the Roninconnects withNiohandNinja Gaiden. According to Yasuda, many of the shared elements lie in the costumes and combat styles. Ryu Hayabusa’s outfits, like the Hayabusa-ryu combat style, were inspired byNinja Gaiden. As forNioh, most of the Western references were inspired by William’s model, and the protagonist himself appears inRise of the Ronin. The Nioh-ryu combat style would feature the three iconic stances ofNioh, but Team Ninja changed it to fitRise of the Ronin’sgameplay.
