The Penguin Pokemon from the Sinnoh region has made its return toPokemon Scarlet & Violetvia theIndigo Disk DLC, and fans are wondering how they can catch and evolve it.

Piplup has been a really strongWater-type Pokemon over the generations, with its final evolution, Empoleon, being quite popular in competitive PvP as well. Additionally, Piplup is also one of those starters whose evolution undergoes a type change, with Empoleon being a Water/Steel-type Pokemon. Here is how players can get it in the game.

How To Unlock Piplup

Piplup can be unlocked via the BB League Club Room in the Blueberry Academy. Players need to use the PC in the League Club room and then select to request toboost the diversity of the Polar Biome. Considering the fact that it costs 3,000 BP to complete this request, players might need to complete a number of BBQs to raise the required amount.

It can be a bit tiring to solely rely on solo quests, so players can try usinggroup quests via Union Circles to earn BPmuch faster. Additionally, battling trainers can also help them get some BP for free.

Piplup Location Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Piplup is found in the Polar Biome, along with the likes of some other starters such as Oshawot and Chimchar. It is found all over the Polar Biome, except in the southern parts. Once players have completed the request in the Support Board, they can simply head to the Polar Plaza and look for Piplup in the waters east of it. It shouldn’t really take long for players to Piplup in that area, as it spawns quite often.

Starter encounters in theIndigo Disk DLCare not one-off, so even if players aren’t able to catch one, they can simply catch another Piplup in the wild. Since this is postgame content, playersmight struggle to catch it with really high-level Pokemon, as Piplup is only around level 60 in this area. That being said, the good old strategy of using False Swipe along with status conditions should work pretty well here.

How To Evolve Piplup To Prinplup & Empoleon

Piplup evolves into Prinplup at level 16 and Prinplup evolves into Empoleon at level 36. Both Prinplup and Empoleon are not available in the wild, and they can only be obtained by evolving Piplup. If a Piplup caught is already past the evolution level, then players can evolve it to Prinplup by leveling it up once, and the same can be done for Empoleone as well.

The best nature for Piplup is Modest and Quiet, which boosts its Special Attack at the cost of Attack and Speed stats. Water is the best Tera-type for Piplup, boosting its damage and further enhancing the STAB effect. If players want to protect Piplup’s weaknesses, then Grass and Dragon are equally good Tera-types as well for defensive builds.
