PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsdeveloper PUBG Corporation has continued to release updates to the game to improve the experience for players, including the launch of akillcam and replay feature. But while previous tweaks have been welcomed by fans, the latest change to the popular battle royale game is already proving controversial.
PUBG Corporation has confirmed that in the latest patch to the game, it made significant changes to the pre-match area. This pre-match area is wherePlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsplayers congregate before a match; the game would spawn them all into the same location.

However, this patch changes that and makes it so that there are now “multiple areas” for players to congregate in before a match begins. The developer has removed the weapons from the pre-match lobby as well.
PUBG Corporation explains that this was done because having “lots of interaction among multiple players in such a small area had a high impact on the servers.” Since the patch, the performance ofPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, on both the server and client-side of the game has improved, reveals the developer.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsfans have taken issue with the game’s performance before. Aside from region-lockingChina due to cheating concerns, it is one of the main pain points. Many fans are happy to trade the frantic fun of the pre-match lobby if it means that the game will run a lot smoother.
But some others disagree, saying that PUBG Corporation has removed one of the most fun parts of the game. This pre-match lobby allowed players to embrace the ridiculous, with dozens of players able to interact with each other and behave much sillier than they probably should in the actual match. It also allowed players to test out certain weapons that they might not get their hands on during the real match and so it’s understandable why some are upset to see that change.
PUBG Corporation wouldn’t have made this change unless it felt that the benefits would outweigh the cries by angry fans. The developer may feel that it has more pressing concerns to deal with (including further action to solve the game’s worseningcheating problem) right now. There are also plans for new loot boxes too. As a result, it seems highly unlikely that the developer will revert the lobby back to how it was, especially if that means throwing away that improved performance.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsis available now for PC and on Xbox One through the Game Preview program.
