Persona 3is a classic entry in the now-famous JRPG franchise, being the first to introduce Social Link mechanics into the series. The game first released in 2006, but has since received several updated versions in the form ofFESandPortable.

Recently,Persona 3 Portablewas ported to PC and modern consoles for the first time, allowing a new generation of players to explore this classic title. Some players may end up choosingPersona 3 Portableas their firstPersonagame, which can be tough asPersona 3 Portableis much more difficult than its successors. Here are the best Personas to use in the first month of the game, during the Thebel Block of Tartarus.

Persona 3 Apsaras

8Apsaras

Apsaras is a level 3 Personaof the Priestess Arcana, and likely one of the first Personas that players will obtain during the early game. Though its moveset is rather small, its ability to cast Bufu allows it to hit the weak points of many of the enemies that wander the first fifteen floors of Tartarus.

Persona 3 Forneus

Apsaras has a resistance to Ice attacks, allowing it to reduce incoming damage from Bufu spells. It can also use Sukunda to slow down agile enemies to keep them from dodging or landing hits. However, its weakness to Slash attacks can cause the user to be knocked down by even basic attacks.

7Forneus

Forneus is a level 7 Persona of the Emperor Arcana, meaning players will need to have ventured quite far into Tartarus before they would be able to summon it. However, the effort isn’t exactly worth it, as its base kit only has Bufu and Bash as its main damage skills.

Forneus resists Ice damage, but is weak to Fire damage, making it fairly risky to use against the Agi-wielding enemies in this block of Tartarus. It can also use Tarukaja to boost its own or an ally’s damage.

Persona 3 Nekomata

6Nekomata

Nekomata is a level 5 Personaof the Magician Arcana, and it is one of the first Personas to grant the player access to a multi-target spell in Maragi. While Fire skills are its main source of damage, it also has access to Slash damage in the form of Cleave.

Nekomata resists fire damage and has no weaknesses, making it a good defensive Persona to rely on when fighting sub-bosses like Dancing Hand that can hit multiple elements. Nekomata is a decent initial Persona, but it is easily surpassed by later options.

5Alp

Alp is a level 6 Personaof the Lovers Arcana, and is a direct upgrade to Pixie. Alp has access to two elemental attacks in Garu and Mudo, as well as support skills like Dia and Sukunda. This gives Alp a variety of options during any battle.

Alp resists Wind damage, but is weak to Ice damage. Its Wind resistance makes it a good pick against two of the three sub-bosses in Thebel Block that frequently use Garu skills. Its Ice weakness may leave the player vulnerable to random enemies, but its utility cannot be underestimated.

4Ara Mitama

Ara Mitama is a level 6 Persona of the Chariot Arcana, and has the most versatile moveset so far. It has basic damage skills in Bash and Agi, but gains several support skills in Rakukaja, Sukukaja, and Rakunda, making it a good support Persona.

Ara Mitama resists Strike attacks, making it a good defense against many of the basic mobs that wander Thebel Block. However, its weakness to Wind attacks makes it a bad idea against the sub-bosses, since several of them use Wind frequently.

3Omoikane

Omoikane is a level 7 Persona of the Hierophant Arcana. It can attack with Electric skills like Zio while supporting with healing skills like Dia and Me Patra. Omoikane is the first Persona with access to Zio or Me Patra, so it is an important early Persona for those reasons.

Omoikane also has resistance to Electric attacks, which makes it a good pick against the Rampage Drive sub-boss. This sub-boss frequently casts Mazio, so having Omoikane can reduce the amount of damage taken each time it is used.

2Jack Frost

The iconic Jack Frostappears as a level 8 Persona of the Magician Arcana. For the Thebel Block, it’s unlikely that players will be able to fuse Jack Frost until they reach the end of the block, when they will not have much use for it.

Nevertheless, Jack Frost is a powerful early Persona if obtained. Its Ice skills are further augmented by the Ice Boost skill, while it can also completely block out Ice attacks from enemies. Jack Frost is a powerful early game magic caster that can break down many of the mobs that wander Thebel Block.

Persona 3 Omoikane

1Lilim

Just like Jack Frost, Lilim is a level 8 Devil Persona that likely won’t be available to the player until they reach the end of Thebel Block. However, Lilim is very worth the trouble to fuse or summon, what with her being able to cover three different elements with Agi, Zio, and Mudo.

Lilim has resistance to Electric and Dark attacks, and her weakness to Light is negligible since no enemies on the early floors can use Hama. Lilim is a powerful Persona that can still put in workdeep into the next block of Tartarus, and is just as useful in Thebel Block.
