Blizzard is currently in the midst of releasing a series ofOverwatchteasers day-to-day, but a bit of news may have accidentally been revealed too soon. The officialOverwatchaccount for Japan recently posted the file name of a teaser image, rather than the image itself. As a result, thousands of JapaneseOverwatchfans were left with a different teaser than intended, a teaser that reads “Brigitte Tease #3_Monday”.
Speculation regarding the recent teasers has assumed they were leading up to the announcement ofOverwatch’s 27th character. Brigitte, who is Torbjorn’s daughter and Reinhardt’s armorer, was the leading guess for the 27th character and now it seems almost a lock. Granted, the leak today doesn’t necessarily confirm the speculation, but it’d definitely be a surprise if Blizzard went in a different direction now.
It’s unclear how many teasers Blizzard has left to release before it confirms what this is all working towards, Brigitte or otherwise. It’s likely to last at least another week, given that the current Lunar New Year event will last until March 5. If the wait extends beyond that, Blizzard may be planning to tie the announcement into the forthcoming 2018 iteration of the Uprising event.
Blizzard managed to create an excellent initial smokescreen for Brigitte, should she truly be the character the teasers are building up to. The initial teaser revolved around anOverwatchoperation now long past whereinReinhardt saved Torbjorn’s life. We now know that it was this event that led to Reinhardt’s close relationship with Brigitte, as Torbjorn allowed the armored German to name his daughter and become her godfather.
Subsequent teasers have made Brigitte’s importance much more obvious, with the latest two teasers clearly tying back to the woman. The teasers show designs for weapons and shields with notes written in Swedish, Torbjorn and Brigitte’s native language. One design is for Reinhardt’s shield, which we know to be made by Brigitte, and now there is this mistake.
Players are already excitedly discussing what kind of character Brigitte might be, so Blizzard may have pushed themselves into a corner. Rumors regarding her wielding a large mace, or possibly even utilizing hercat with a jetpackas some sort of weapon, are spreading fast. Only Blizzard knows for certain at this point, but they can’t reasonably makeOverwatchfans wait much longer at this point.
