Overwatchwas one of the most critically-acclaimed games of 2016 and remains popular to this day. One would think that most of the people who want to playOverwatchwill have already done so, but anyone still on the fence can now check out the hero-shooter for free for a limited time. Blizzard has launched a free trial period forOverwatchthat makes the game free from now until Sunday, January 2.
TheOverwatchfree trial offers unrestricted access to all of the game’s content, meaning anyone that participates can choose anyone from the roster, check out any of the game modes, play on any of the maps, and unlock content from the ongoingWinter Wonderland event. And while players can accessOverwatchfor free while the trial is active, it should be noted that Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus subscriptions are required for those playing on Xbox and PlayStation, respectively. PC gamers simply need a Battle.net account to participate.

If someone checks out theOverwatchfree trialand then decides they want to keep playing the game, it’s available at a heavily discounted price on multiple storefronts due to end-year sales. Not only that, but any progress made during the free trial will carry over to the full version of the game as well.
This means newOverwatchplayers checking out the free trial are able to keep anything that they unlock during the event, including cosmetics from the ongoing Winter Wonderland event. TheOverwatchWinter Wonderland 2021 event lasts from now until January 6, giving fans the chance to check out limited-time modes and unlock seasonal cosmetic items. Cosmetics from previous Winter Wonderland events are available, but there are also a slew ofnew skins for Winter Wonderland 2021for fans to get their hands on as well.
Of course, those playing theOverwatchfree trial can also check out the standard game modes as well.OverwatchQuick Playand Competitive modes are available for free trial players to battle it out in, plus there’s all the Custom games that fans have made as well.Overwatchhas amassed a wealth of content since its launch in 2016, and so there should be no shortage of things for players to do during the free trial period.
In the meantime, longtimeOverwatchplayers may be growing impatient forOverwatch 2. The latest on the game indicated that theOverwatch 2release datewould be later than expected, but specifics are unavailable at the time of this writing.
