When the originalPokemonanime debuted in North America, it did so with two iconic songs. The originalPokemontheme song left a lasting impression on kids watching the anime in the 90s, and is still referenced to this day. The other song played at the end ofPokemonepisodes in the form of the PokeRap, which rattled off the names of 150 different Pokemon in the form of a rap song. While the PokeRap was a great way to learn all the Pokemon names, some may not realize that the song had some glaring errors.

The original PokeRap had a few different errors that recently received some new attention thanks to TikTok. Various TikTok videos have been calling out the PokeRap for its errors, of which there are three that have been discovered so far. First up is the fact the PokeRap says “Poliwrath,” yet shows an image of Poliwrath’s first form,Poliwag, instead. That same image of Poliwag shows up later in the PokeRap when it’s actually Poliwag’s turn to be mentioned.

A similar error happens withGeodude and Gravelernear the end of the song. The PokeRap rapper says “Graveler,” but the image on the screen shows Geodude. The third and final error discovered so far is a bit different, as it is Lickitung’s name being misspelled as “Likitung.”

These errors were originally discovered in the 90s and fixed in later episodes of thePokemonanime series. Later seasons also introduced completely new versions of the PokeRap, though the growing number of Pokemon have made properly updating the PokeRap with each new season an insurmountable task. At this point, the PokeRap would be so long that it would eat up way too much time.

While thePokemonanime itself hasn’t updated the PokeRap for a long while, others have taken it upon themselves to update the song.Polygon updated the PokeRapa couple of years ago to include all 812 Pokemon that were in the series at the time. There is now 898 Pokemon in thePokemonfranchise, though, so it seems as though the PokeRap is due for yet another update if it wants to be completely accurate.

Content creator TooManyLuigis64 went the opposition direction when they updated the PokeRap, insteadremoving Pokemon based on the creatures who are missing fromPokemon SwordandShield. It will be interesting to see if the next main seriesPokemongame is also missing Pokemon at launch, and if so, if new versions of the PokeRap are created in response.
