Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct today, just days before the release of its new console to show off 17 new indie titles coming to theNintendo Switch. The presentation, titled the"Nindies Showcase"adds to the more than 70 titles from indie studios promised to come to the Switch.

Indie titles have grown to be abig part of the game lineupon the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and whereas not many indie devs founda place on Nintendo’s past consoles, Nintendo looks to be renewing its focus in getting independent developers on the Switch. Nintendo’s Damon Baker hosted the Nintendo Direct, and said “It’s our mission to prioritize unique and original experiences and curate an amazing lineup of content that will feel perfectly at home on Nintendo Switch.”

SteamWorld Dig 2

The showcase started off with the announcement ofSteamWorld Dig 2. The game is a sequel to the original game, which launched in 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS, but has since made its way to PC, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and Wii U. It is a side-scrolling platformer with exploration concepts, akin to a Metroid-style game.SteamWorld Dig 2launches on the Switch this summer.

Yooka-Laylee,Overcooked, &The Escapists 2

While developer Team17 also showed off a new trailer detailing its N64-inspired platformer’ssnow world, it was also confirmed during the Nintendo Direct that theYooka-Layleewill also be out on the Nintendo Switch. It is expected to be released on April 11 alongside the game’s release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In addition toYooka-Laylee, Team17 is also bringing the couch co-op arcade style cooking game,Overcooked, to the Switch. The game will be a special edition, which will contain all the DLC and content created for the game, which released last summer on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Team17 will also bringThe Escapists 2to the Switch, a top-down game that tasks players with setting up the perfect escape from prison. The game will feature drop-in, drop-out co-op for up to 4-players.

GoNNER,Dandara&Kingdom: Two Crowns

GoNNERis described as a procedurally roguelike platformer from studio Art in Heart and publisher Raw Fury. WhileGoNNERis currently available on Steam, the the game will be a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch, and the console will get special content created specifically for the Switch.

Publisher Raw Fury will also bring another game to the Switch, known asDandarafrom developer Long Hat House. It’s another Metroidvania-style 2D action platformer, and will launch this summer with special functionality for the Switch, includingHD Rumble.

Raw Fury has one more title coming to the Switch, which isKingdom: Two Crowns. Players take on the role of a king who must make hard choices for his kingdom, taking care of his people while also weighing the prospects (and threats) of exploring the wilderness. A new co-op mode was shown for the first time during the Nintendo Direct.

Runner 3

Runner 3is a quirky side-scrolling platformer and the third entry in theBIT.TRIP RUNNERseries from developer Choice Provisions.Runner 3will debut this fall, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Blaster Master Zero

Blaster Master Zerois a return to its roots. The game is a sequel to a classic NES game that put players behind a weapon-touting vehicle in side-scrolling sections, combined with top-down on-foot shooting sections. The game, developed by Inti Creates, launches shortly after the Switch launches, on March 9 exclusively on Switch and 3DS.

Flipping Death

Debuting for the first time during the Nindie Showcase wasFlipping Deathby Zoink, known for developingStick it to The Man!of which Zoink says this game is very much a spiritual successor to. The game will task players to take the role of Penny, who accidentally ends up with the grim reaper’s job and who can possess and control people in her fictional town of Flatwood Peaks.Flipping Deathis due out this year on Switch and other unannounced platforms.

Graceful Explosion Machine

Nintendo touted three games that are using theJoy-Cons' HD Rumble feature. The first isGraceful Explosion Machine, an arcade shooter experience from developer VertexPop, that will let players feel the explosions they create by blasting away enemies with HD Rumble. It will release as a timed exclusive on Switch in April.

Mr. Shifty

Another timed exclusive coming in April isMr. Shiftyfrom developer Team Shifty and publisher tinyBuild. GameSpot called it a “more empowering version ofHotline Miami.” The game will challenge players to complete heists, but they’ll be able to use teleportation powers to get around traps and dodge bullets.

TumbleSeed: A Rolly Roguelike

TumbleSeed: A Rolly Roguelikefeatures a procedurally generated mountain filled with holes and corrupted creatures that players will have to roll a seed through to reach the top of the mountain. It is out on Switch, PS4, and PC this spring.

Shakedown: Hawaii

Vblank Entertainment, the developers behindRetro City Rampagebring a game inspired by the shooters from 16-bit era to life withShakedown: Hawaii. It will launch as a timed exclusive on Switch in April.

Pocket Rumble,Wargroove&Stardew Valley

The next group of games comes from publisher Chucklefish Games. The first isPocket Rumble, a game that was funded by Kickstarter and developed by Cardboard Robot Games. It’s a classic fighting game that can be played using many of the Switch’s control methods including with just one Joy-Con for head-to-head fights in local multiplayer. The game is set to release this March.

The next game from Chucklefish debuted for the first time during the Nintendo Direct. It’s calledWargroove,a turn-based strategy game for up to 4 players, in which each player takes control of an army and its commander unit to wage war on their enemies.

The final game isStardew Valley, which will come to Nintendo Switch and will be the first platform to feature the game’snew multiplayer mode.Stardew Valleyis available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be released for the Switch this summer.
