Who Is Ms. Marvel?

Kamala Khan is a Muslim Pakistani-American teenager from New Jersey who discovers she hasInhuman cells in her body that give her powers. This is in line with a storyline in the Marvel comics about Inhumans who discover their heritage after being exposed to Terrigen Mist. Kamala’s Inhuman cells manifest as her being a polymorph with the ability to stretch her body in almost any way imaginable, as well as the ability to grow and shrink her body and heal wounds quickly. Kamala is a huge fan of superheroes even before she gains powers, and she ends up taking the Ms. Marvel mantle from Carol Danvers as her own superhero alter ego.

What IsMs. MarvelGoing To Be About?

So far, there’s not a lot of word on what the exact synopsis of the show is going to be. All that we know so far is that Kamala is a nerdy teenager who struggles to fit in at school, but loves gaming and writing fanfiction, specifically about Captain Marvel, who is her idol. The show will likely be about her learning to use her newfound powers and discovering what it means to be a superhero, while also being a teen coming of age story. Kamala’s religion and culture are a big part of her identity in the comics, so the show will also likely explore that part of her life.

The tone of the show will likely be more light-hearted if it’s anything like the comics, and will probably lend itself to a lot of comedic moments as Kamala figures out her powers. The show will be relatable to a teenage audience (or anyone who was once a teenager themselves), while still being a fun Marvel romp full of the superhero goodness fans are used to. AsMs. Marvel is set to appear inThe Marvels, the show will likely also set up that movie.

The show was shot in Atlanta, New Jersey, and partially in Thailand, indicating thatKamala may be traveling the worlda bit in her adventures as Ms. Marvel. There were also a few photos from production that show Iman Vellani in her Ms. Marvel costume, and it seems very comics accurate.

There is no official release date, but initially,Ms. Marvelwas supposed to release at the end of 2021. However, it now appears that a 2022 premiere is more likely.Seeing asHawkeyeis set to be released on November 24, 2021and will be taking up that end-of-the-year time slot,Ms. Marvelwill likely be pushed to 2022.

There is no official trailer for the show at this point, but at the Disney Investor Day in December of 2020, Marvel released a short sizzle reel for Ms. Marvel that includes the creative team discussingwhat they hope the show brings to the MCU. It also includes some short footage of the show, including snippets of Iman Vellani as Kamala.
