Wasting no time following the release of Capcom’sResident Evil 4remake “Chainsaw Demo,” modders have already managed to get the short gameplay teaser running in VR. Continuing its trend of releasing teasers for new entries in the franchise ahead of launch, Capcom released ademo of theResident Evil 4remakefor PC and consoles following Capcom Spotlight 2023.First revealed at PlayStation’s June State of Play event in 2022, Capcom’s upcomingResident Evil 4remake is the latest entry in the revered horror franchise to receive a makeover for modern gaming machines. Following a pattern established by the well-received remakes ofResident Evil 2and3, this latest trip back to the series’ past appears to keep many of the elements that made the original game a fan favorite while updating the gameplay and overall design for modern audiences. While many long-time fans will undoubtedly be excited to revisit one of the horror franchise’s best entries, players who loved the originalResident Evil 4’s cheesy storylinemay be slightly disappointed by the remake’s seemingly more serious tone.RELATED:Resident Evil 4 Remake Physical Copies Already Spotted Out in the WildAnnounced on Twitter by Flat2VR, a modding community dedicated to bringing full VR support to existing flatscreen titles, theResident Evil 4remake’s “Chainsaw Demo” is now fully playable in VR on PC thanks to a simple, free mod. Available on the GitHub page of popular VR modder Praydog, PC players need only unzip a single file into the directory where the demo is installed and they will be able to experience the terrifying demo with full VR support. Praydog had previously released well-received VR mods for the PC versions ofResident Evil 2, 3, 7,and8, and is set to launch their “Universal UE Injector” later this year that will add VR support to any PC game running on the ubiquitous Unreal Engine.

Gamers responding to the tweet seemed excited at the idea of playing through theResident Evil 4demo in VR, with several responses quickly sharing screenshots and videos of the game running on their PCs. While happy to see the demo getting VR support, some gamers expressed disappointment that the mod only featured a third-person view, rather than the first-person view available in Praydog’s otherResident EvilVR mods. Even though some players would clearly prefer to enjoy the game through the eyes of Leon Kennedy, the traditional third-person view seems much more well-suited forResident Evil 4’s action-heavy gameplay.

With modders already adding VR support toResident Evil 4on PC even before the remake’s full release, many players will be watching closely to see what Capcom has in store for the officialResident Evil 4VR modewhen it arrives for PS VR2 later this month. Regardless of whether played on a flat screen or VR, though,Resident Evil 4looks to be a can’t-miss for horror fans.

Resident Evil 4 Remakeis set to release on June 27, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
