After an impressive first season that continued expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe in cosmic directions,Lokiseason 2 looks like it will see the God of Mischief return for an even more bizarre adventure, as directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead tease an unexpected and fresh next chapter.

Lokipremiered on Disney Plus this past summer, and the series would go on to receive rave reviews from critics (particularly the performances and unique storyline) and become the most-watched MCU series. The series also became the first Marvel Studios show to earn a second season, something many fans are most definitely looking forward to.

Now that Marvel Studios has found the right people to direct,Lokiseason 2 is shaping up to be one wild and unexpected ride. “I think the biggest thing aboutLokiis just that it’s actually a lot likeMoon Knight, where there’s just no reason to do it if it’s not going to be something new and fresh,” Moorhead told ComicBook. “It’s funny, it does feel like Marvel would be willing to walk away unless it actually is something that they felt the unexpected. Like fromMoon Knightand especially becauseMoon Knightis a characterwhere nobody knows almost anything about him, yet. Soon to be changed, right? And so our gloves are off, and we get to kind of do whatever we want."

“And everybody at Marvel and ourselves gets really excited when we are presented with the unexpected. We also of course, hope that people watching feel the same way, and we’re gonna bring all that toLoki,” Moorhead concluded. WithDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesslooking to pick up after the events ofLoki’s season 1 finale, where the actions of Sylvie ultimately caused the branching out of the multiverse, it’s still unclear whenLoki’s second season will take place and what the multiverse will look like at that point.

Whatever turns out to be the case, it’s very likely that fans will get to seeTom Hiddleston return as the God of Mischiefbefore his next season releases. For one, Loki may play a pivotal role in theDoctor Strangesequel in terms of helping the Sorcerer and other heroes navigate through the multiverse. Loki could also appear inThor: Love and Thunder, a film that also releases later this year and could see him reunite with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Until he shows up again, fans will just have to relish inLoki’sfirst season all over again while getting hyped for season 2, which is expected to begin filming this summer.
