Summary
New enemy types have been added toHelldivers 2since launch that contribute greatly to the overall meta, including what stratagems or loadouts players want to dive into a mission with in order to combat them. Chargers are still arguably one of the most grating bugs to deal with since they’re endlessly aggressive, for instance, but bot missions can be incredibly daunting now with the threat of factory striders or gunships roaming about.Helldivers 2is now seemingly on the cusp of debuting a new enemy faction—or rather reprising one from the originalHelldivers—and it’ll be interesting to see how it molds the live-service shooter.
Until then, and even afterward,Helldivers 2can’t and shouldn’t forget about the two factions that have upheld the game since launch. As a live-service game there will always be balance patches needed to glue the experience together, but adding new enemy types is also a surefire way to help reinforce gameplay and instill variations to how squads might approach every objective. There is a missed opportunity with regard to samples that are dropped either voluntarily or involuntarily, especially when players lose resources in a swarm of enemies, and an enemy who can steal those loose samples could beHelldivers 2’s biggest threat yet.

Precious Samples Shouldn’t Be So Safe While Unattended in Helldivers 2
A tiny enemy that scurries about and steals dropped loot would admittedly be a random addition toHelldivers 2but one that could change sample-gathering metas forever. This could apply to bothAutomatons and Terminids, too, since it need only be a small critter-esque enemy that scuttles toward flashing vials and robs them from a player’s corpse.
If so, it would then be neat to examine the mini-map and see players’ loot icons on the move, being able to track where one of these enemies is that has stolen their valuable samples. This would make it so players can’t simply return to where they died to pick their loot back up and must decide whether it’s worthwhile to pursue the bot or bug responsible. Moreover, the bot or bug itself could flash with the samevisual cue of dropped samplesso players can immediately tell which enemy in a pack possesses their lost belongings.

Thus, instead of being able to circle back around to a lootable corpse when it’s more convenient, it would be more pressing for players to snag it back before an enemy can get their hands on it, especially if loot could potentially vanish if held onto by an associable enemy for too long to add a sense of urgency.
Samples Need to Be Hard-Won in Helldivers 2
A ubiquitous strategy regarding super samples has seen many players halt what they’re doing when they’ve found them in order to then make their way to the evacuation site. Here, players will intentionally leave super samples on the platform so there is a better chance someone will be able to scoop them up as they dive into the Pelican at the end of a successful mission.
This has been ideal since it means there isn’t a chance someone carrying all six super samples in aHelldive-difficultyHelldivers 2missionwill fall to a bile titan or a fellow diver’s errant nuke while attempting to load shells into a SEAF cannon or arm a Hellbomb at the base of a shrieker nest. That said, if an extraction site is overwhelmed by hordes of bots or bugs it can still be grueling to retrieve them.

If a new enemy’s only purpose was to rob players of their samples, this strategy would need to be reconsidered if unattended super samples could be snatched away from the extraction site while players absentmindedly continue completing objectives elsewhere. It’s unknown whatnew enemies could or will be arriving inHelldivers 2’s future, but Arrowhead is basically only limited by how imaginative it can prove itself to be.
