Sony Santa Monica’sGod of Warhas taken the PlayStation community by storm, becoming the best-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive of all time shortly after launch. Those who have completed the game’s main story and are looking for a reason to replay the journey of Kratos and Atreus, and thankfully they have a reason to dive back in, as the newest update has added aNew Game Plus modefor players.

The highly anticipated addition of new game plus was announced earlier this month, and launches exactly four months after the game’s official release back in April. In addition to the option to start from the beginning of the story,God of War’snewest campaign mode allows players to retain all of the gear, talismans, runics, weapons, and skills they’ve collected on their original playthrough.

This in turn leads to numerous changes to combat, with enemies now having altered attack patterns when fighting Kratos, and new in-game challenges to tackle such as timed realm tear encounters. Along with the new challenges fromGod of War’s New Game Plus mode, enemies now have the ability to turn “elite”, making them more dangerous foes even on easier difficulty settings.

With the chance for some extended playtime withGod of Waralso comes more new unlockables for players to strive for. For those who want to add a couple of new shield skins to their list of cosmetics for Kratos, they can now do so by completing New Game Plus onthe toughest difficulty, “Give MeGod of War+”. Other opportunities for players to upgrade and unlock new equipment includes new armor sets for both Kratos and Atreus, new customizable options reliant on a new resource called Skap Slag, and the ability to convert old talismans and gear into new enchantments.

Also on the list of new features is the ability to skip cutscenes, which is a notable option consideringGod of Warwas originally designed to beplayable in a single cinematic shot. The option to skip through cinematics is only available for those who have beaten the story at least once, regardless of whether they are playing on New Game Plus or not.

The aforementioned critical and commercial success ofGod of Waris something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, and it’s great that Santa Monica Studio is giving the title’s sizable player base even more to do in the game. And withGod of Warhaving becomethe highest rated game ever on PS4, it will be interesting to see how the developer plans to top the action-adventure title with its sequel.
