Summary

Fortniteplayers expressed their disappointment with this year’s Winterfest event. The Christmas-themed event, which is an annual occurrence inFortnite, contains much less fanfare this time around.

Similar toFortnite’s Winterfest last year, its 2023 edition features 14 cosmetic items that can be unlocked for free by simply logging in and playing a match each day. The event also features an assortment of quests that can be completed in exchange for significant amounts of XP, helping players to level up their battle passes. One of these quests requires the player to visit Crackshot’s Cabin, a fan-favorite location that is added toFortniteeach Winter. However, players are noticing that this location seems to be missing from the game, in addition to other complaints surrounding this year’s Winterfest.

Reddit user ImTiredOfPolitics took to the popularFortniteforum to voice their displeasure with 2023’s Winterfest. The user explained that this year’s event did not introduce a cinematic or Crackshot’s Cabin, two features that have become synonymous withFortnite’s yearly Winterfest. TheFortnitecommunity seems to agree with them, as the post accrued thousands of upvotes. However, the lack of Crackshot’s Cabin seems to be some sort of bug, seeing that some players have reported it showing up in their matches, and one of this year’s Winterfest quests requires players to visit it.

One commentor observed that this year’s Winterfest being relatively low quality is likely due toFortnite’s focus on other robust updates that have been added to the game recently. On December 7,FortnitereleasedLEGO Fortnite, which is almost an entirely new game. The mode’s impressive list of unique features, as well as its own map, likely soaked up a significant amount of resources ahead of this year’s Winter season.

Fortnitealso just introducedRocket Racing, another brand-new mode that can be launched from within theFortniteapp. It seems that this ambitious set of expansions may have come at the cost ofFortnite’s traditional battle royale mode, seeing that this year’s Winterfest is a bit more stripped down than usual.

Recent leaksrevealed the augments that will be added later inFortnite’s Chapter 5, so it seems that Epic Games will certainly continue with its regular updates to the battle royale mode. While this year’s Winterfest is a worrying drop in quality in some ways, Epic Games will likely continue to pour tons of resources and effort into making its most popular mode as enjoyable as possible, despite the various new modes that have been added toFortnite. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Epic Games has a long-term vision forFortnite, as it continues to implement new ways to enjoy the game’s engine.
