A newFortniteleak has left fans guessing as to why Kevin the Cube seems to be making a large-scale return in the popular Battle Royale title. The glowing purple cube was last seen in season six, but a new leak from popularFortniteleak account FortTory seems to indicate that a brand new floating island - with cube inclusive - will be showing up in a forthcoming update.
The leak comes in the form of a video, with the player flying around the new in-game assets to provide fans with a good view of the island. The clip shows thatKevin the Cubeis holding up the unnamed island, with its surface level boasting a hodgepodge collection of familiar locals that had been previously removed from the map, including parts of the Motel. The mysterious island doesn’t have an official name of yet, so fans are simply calling it Cube Island, though one supposes Kevin Island would be acceptable, too.
It’s worth noting that while FortTory showed off the assets within the volcano, this isn’t actually where the floating island will be: it’s just where the user had enough space to properly show the island assets in full. A leaked loading screen found separately seems to imply that Kevin might make an appearance floating aboveFatal Fields, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

For fans wondering why the ominous cube is named Kevin, there’s no real answer for it: back when it first appeared, it slowly progress around the map and prompted a lot of wondering about its purpose. Fans didn’t know what to call it, so somebody suggested ‘Kevin.’ The name stuck, and so it came to be that Kevin went toLoot Lake, disappeared underneath the water, resurfaced, and stole an entire island on his way out. Four seasons after leaving, his name is once again on the lips of gamers around the globe.
Why Kevin is poised to return remains a mystery for now, though fans are already concocting a veritable pile of theories. Given that the assets are in the game, it’s more than the likely that Kevin will indeed be making a return, along with the island he’s holding up - though fans should take all leaks with a grain of salt until official news comes out. While data miners have confirmed Kevin’s existence in terms of in-game assets, there’s no telling where or when the ominous purple cube is going to turn up next.
If one had to take an educated guess, the cube might show up sometime after September 10: that’s whenFortnite’s collaboration withBorderlands 3comes to an end, making Pandora the first temporary rift zone in the game. It’ll leave some big shoes to fill, and what better to fill those shoes than a giant cube with no feet?
