TheFear Effectseries has had a bumpy road throughout its life. The first game released in 2000 and was met with positive reception, with a lot of gamers drawing parallels between it and otherfixed-camera angle games likeResident EvilandDino Crisis. The second game,Fear Effect: Retro Helix, released one year later and served as a prequel to the first game. It would then be 17 years beforeFear Effect Sednawould serve as the sequel to the original game, and it’s where the original series stopped. After long stretches of silence, a new teaser was dropped by publisher Forever Entertainment on August 24, promising the remakeFear Effect Reinventedis still in development, and it’s coming soon.
Fear Effect Reinventedwas announced in August 2017 as part of theSquare Enix Collective program, withFear Effect Sednadeveloper Sushee set to create this remake of the original game. After years of troubled development, including a complete developer change from Sushee to MegaPixel Studio, fans finally got a new look at the game in a new brief trailer with an unusual wording for its release window at the end of the video.

In a 46-second trailer posted to YouTube from the Forever Entertainment account, a few things were confirmed about this remake, while a lot of information was left up in the air. The game will no longer have fixed-camera angles as in the original game and will adopt aResident Evil 4-like over-the-shoulder camera. The game will also have cover-based shooting mechanics, similar to theGears of Warseries. The expanded remake will also have three separate campaigns. The big stand-out moment of this trailer, though, is the vague release window, which just reads: “Coming sooner than you think.”
Fear Effect Reinventedhas had a difficult development but MegaPixel Studio has previously stated it did not want to rush the game and wanted to do justice to the original title, similarly toThe Last of Usremake coming soon. It has also been speculated that creating the game has been difficult due to the change in development studios. The last official update regardingFear Effect Reinventedcame earlier this year via the official Discord server of Forever Entertainment, claiming the game was 80 percent complete.
With the publisher of the game claiming the game was pretty far along in early 2022, and with the message at the end of the trailer, it would be reasonable to assume thatFear Effect Reinventedwill most likely be releasing sometime in late 2022. For now, fans will just have to wait and see and hope that the game doesn’t get officiallydelayed into a game-packed 2023.
