By now three raid boss events are part ofFallout 76’s endgame loop, four counting the Sheepsquatch Imposter. Considering that the game has been out for around six years,Fallout 76could arguably use a few more raid bosses to shake up the endgame loop at this point.
With theupcoming map expansion forFallout 76coming in 2024, this naturally could be a good opportunity to introduce another raid boss. The main questlines and dungeons in this expansion will likely feature boss fights anyway, so turning one of them into a raid boss could kill multiple birds with one stone.
Why Fallout 76’s 2024 Map Expansion Should Add a New Raid Boss Event
The Sheepsquatch Imposter is a special exception, but otherwise, the other raid bosses inFallout 76are all summoned by the same method. Specifically, the Scorchbeast Queen, Wendigo Colossus, and the Ultracite Titan are all summoned bylaunching a nuke inFallout 76at a particular area on the map. So, with the 2024 map expansion adding new locations to the game, this would seemingly be the perfect opportunity to introduce a new raid boss that can be summoned this way.
Although, no matter how players can summon it, a new raid boss has been a long time coming forFallout 76that this update shouldn’t pass on. Aside from how it would seemingly be a convenient opportunity, there are a few other reasons why the 2024 map expansion should consider adding a newraid boss event inFallout 76.
Raid bosses are repeatable Public Events in Fallout 76 that are open to the entire server to participate in.
The Ultracite Titan raid boss fromFallout 76’s Nuka World On Tour update has proven to be a great way to keep players returning to this update after completing the main questlines. So, for the sake of longevity,Fallout 76’s 2024 map expansion update should consider adding a new raid boss event.
Fallout 76’s Jersey Devil Was A Missed Opportunity
The most recent update forFallout 76was theAtlantic City, America’s Playground updatewhich, among other things, introduced the Jersey Devil enemy. This new cryptid is an enemy that players will face in the new quests from this update. However, it was a missed opportunity to make this enemy a one-time encounter instead of a new raid boss. So, especially after the Atlantic City updates, the 2024 map expansion can’t make the same mistake.
Enemies That Would Make the Perfect Raid Boss in Fallout 76
While the Jersey Devil still deserves more time in the spotlight, adding a new raid boss toFallout 76could also be a chance to give franchise veterans a blast from the past by reintroducing major bosses from past Fallout games. For example,Fallout 76could revisit Fallout 3’s Super Mutant Behemoth fight, or even the Radscorpion Queen, legendary deathclaws, or legendary cazadors from Fallout: New Vegas. Most of these enemies are already inFallout 76, so this kind of fan service seemingly wouldn’t pose any risk to the franchise’s canon lore.
Otherwise,Fallout 76still has plenty of its own original enemies that are arguably worthy of being a raid boss. In particular, some of the fan-favoritecryptid enemies inFallout 76are long overdue for this kind of treatment. Ultimately, whether it ends up being a traditional raid boss or a new unique event in general, the upcoming 2024 map expansion forFallout 76shouldn’t pass up on the opportunity to introduce a new raid boss event.
