The winners of the Yahoo! Japan Search Awards were recently announced, with some familiar names making the cut.
Tokyo Revengers,Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, andUma Musume Pretty Derbywon awards in the anime, film, and game categories. The results were announced as part of the award’s cultural category.

KenWakui’sTokyo Revengersmangabegan serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2017, amassing a total of 24 collected volumes throughout its run so far. A 24 episode anime adaptation produced by Liden Films aired during the Spring 2021 anime season, with a live-action film following in the summer. Kodansha USA licenses the manga in English digitally, with Seven Seas distributing physical copies. The anime was streamed on Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan.
Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Timeis thefinal entry in Studio Khara’sRebuild of Evangelionfilm series. The film faced some issues with its development early on and was subsequently delayed, but released on March 8th in Japan to positive reviews. The film was released internationally on August 13th and streamed on Amazon Prime.
Cygames’Uma Musume Pretty Derbymultimedia franchise has spawned a variety of anime and manga adaptations since 2016. An anime series produced by PA Works and Studio Kai aired from 2018 to 2021, with Crunchyroll simulcasting it as it aired. Amobile gamewas initially scheduled for a 2018 release but was delayed until February 20221.
Tokyo Revengersknocked offDemon Slayeras the most searched for anime series after a two-year reign, with the latter coming in third behindJujutsu Kaisenin the 2021 polls.Evangelionbeat out the Rurouni Kenshin: The Final live-action film and Mamoru Hosoda’s science fantasy,BELLE,which came in at second and third. Hosoda is best known for directingSummer Wars, Wolf Children,and 2018sMirai.
Winners are determined based on the number of searches they amass in a given category. The results are then compared to the previous years with the most improved results getting the top awards for each grouping. The results for this year’s awards are based on results from January 1st to November 1st.
