TheDying Lightseries appears to be alive and well, with Techland confirming its open-world survival horror franchise hit another incredible milestone, surpassing 30 million in lifetime sales. The news of this achievement was shared just as the developer beganteasing the nextDying Light 2story DLC, which is poised to debut later this year.

Techland released the firstDying Lightin 2015 to largely positive reviews, with many players praising the game’s unique blend of shooting, crafting, and parkour mechanics, which allowed for seamless exploration of its immersive open world. After putting out a season pass’s worth of DLC and anenhanced edition ofDying Light, the Polish studio started working on the sequel, which released in early 2022 and achieved a comparable response from fans and critics alike.

Earlier this week, Techland shared a summary of its 2022 results, framing the continued success of theDying Lightfranchise as one of its top achievements in the previous year. Besides the 30 million sales figure, the series' maintained momentum is underlined by the fact that prior to its release,Dying Light 2spent the entirety of 2021 as the most wishlisted game on Steam, as per the developer. The studio also provided an update on its less-accomplishedCall of Juarezseries, stating that its Wild West shooters sold 5 million copies since debuting in 2006.

While the originalDying Lightis still the best-selling game in the franchise, that may not be the case for much longer. According to an earlier statement from Techland, the original hit 20 million sales by mid-2022, some seven years into its release. This paved the way for the sequel to debut with even greater momentum early last year, as evidenced by the fact thatDying Light 2hit 5 million sales in its first monthon the market. Based on this latest update from the developer, the game has effectively doubled that figure over the following year and is now responsible for around one-third of the series' lifetime sales.

The fact thatDying Light 2has been receiving plenty of post-launch updatescertainly hasn’t hurt its ability to attract new players. Especially given how Techland is still far from done developing new content for its latest title. The cloud-powered Switch port ofDying Light 2might also help bolster the commercial success of the franchise once it finally hits the Nintendo eShop on February 4, following some significant delays.
