Released in 2019, the isometric, bleak detective RPGDisco Elysiumhas become something of a cult hit, winning numerous awards, including for best writing. Given its accomplishments and high praise, it’s a bit of a surprise that is consideredone of the most underrated role-playing game of the last few years. However, it must be doing something right, as recent word has come out which says that the game will be coming to both the Xbox One, and Xbox Series, very soon.
Announced in an official trailer which was uploaded to theDisco ElysiumYouTube channel, theFinal Cutversion of the game will be coming to this generation’s and last generation’s Xbox consoles, with a proposed release date of October 12. It’s worth saying that this date is for the digital release, though there will be physical copies available, for both Xbox and PlayStation, from November 9.

This latest development comes just days after news spread thatDisco Elysium: The Final Cutwill also be coming to the Nintendo Switch, which will also be made available to download on October 12. A physical release of the Switch version is planned for sometime in 2022. This means, according to the teaser trailer, that the RPG is now, or at least will be soon, out on every available platform. Given that the game is still more of a cult title, the fact that it’s now being released on all the major systems shows that it’s growing in popularity, and will likely continue to grow in the community once these new ports go live.
For anyone who missed the game when it was first released two years ago,Disco Elysiumis a dialogue-heavy role-playing gamewith no combat system. It’s a title that’s known for its incredible writing and storytelling, as well as its rather desolate take on character choices. TheFinal Cutversion was released this year, and includes a smorgasbord of additional content, including full voice acting for the nearly 300 in-game characters.
The game has also been the subject of controversy.The Australian Classification Board bannedDisco Elysiumearlier this year. The committee cited its portrayal of drug use and addiction, as well as its depictions of violence, as the reason why it was refusing classification for it. Fortunately, the decision was overturned a few months later. Now, with the game coming out on Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, there’s an opportunity for more players to get involved and see what fans have been talking about all this time.
