Though thestory inDiablo 4itself is on pauseuntil the expansion drops, theBook of Lorath, its companion lore book, goes on to explain what happens next. The tome was penned in-universe by Lorath Nahr himself, detailing the events that occurred before, during, and afterDiablo 4. As Neyrelle travels Sanctuary, seeking a way to destroy Mephisto for good, Lorath is hot on her trail, discovering letters she left him along the way. Wowhead cataloged these letters for ease of viewing, and even made a map showing where their travels took them, with the soulstone representing Neyrelle and the Horadrim icon representing Lorath.
Neyrelle went to the following locations on her odyssey:
In his pursuit, Lorath’s journey took him to familiar locations like Westmarch, Tristram, and Lut Gholein, but he did not find evidence of Neyrelle in these places. He also went to new locations like the Skovos Isles and Xiansai, the homeland ofDiablo 3’s Wizard class. Whether it be iconic locations like Tristram or new ones like Ivgorod or Xiansai, theBook of Lorathcasts a wide net as to where players might go inDiablo 4’s in-development expansions.
Either way, the situation looks bleak.According to theBook of Lorath, the Cathedral of Light has also seized the Horadric Vault, and Neyrelle seems to be struggling to hold back Mephisto’s corruption. Only time will tell if players are able to help Neyrelle avoid the grim fate of becoming a vessel for the Lord of Hatred.
Diablo 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
