The Tormentors introduced inDestiny 2’s latest major expansion are a terrifying foe to go up against, but one player captures the unusual moment that they’re put into “god mode” after a Tormentor strikes them with a heavy attack. While it may not have lived up to the expectations of every fan,Destiny 2: Lightfallhas nevertheless delivered plenty of new content to Bungie’s live-service shooter - though the new expansion hasn’t been without bugs.
Encountered all throughout the new missions that make upDestiny 2: Lightfall’s campaign experience, Tormentors are giant, darkness-infused monsters serving under both Calus and the Witness. Similarly to the Hive Lightbearers seen throughout theWitch Queenexpansion, these powerful enemies exist to pose a more substantial threat than ordinary adversaries. Their actual means of attack is quite unique in its aggression, with these scythe-wielding monstrosities often preferring to chase down Guardians and even trap them in their grasp if they get the chance. Tormentors do have their own set of ranged attacks as well, only becoming particularly aggressive after the weak points on their shoulder pads are destroyed.

While they are certainly unique enemies which provide something of a breath of fresh air to theenemy types inDestiny 2, one player encountered a perplexing glitch while facing off against a Tormentor in the first mission ofLightfall’s campaign. After being hit by a Tormentor’s slam attack, a player named SilverWight inexplicably gained the ability to phase through solid objects, an experience which they promptly shared in a post on Reddit. Though they lost the ability to move on a vertical axis, they were briefly able to clip out of the map bounds, only being returned to normal after they died and respawned. It’s not clear whether this was triggered due to the player standing too close to the Tormentor after it despawned or for another reason entirely, but some players are already curious about the possibility of deliberately exploiting this glitch.
There seems to be no end to the number of newbugs that have been cropping up sinceDestiny 2: Lightfallreleased, with issues affecting many aspects of the game from weapon damage to performance. These bugs haven’t been helpful for players struggling with the general increase in the game’s difficulty, with some enemies unintentionally being powerful enough to destroy Guardians in a single shot.
The difficulty overhaul thatLightfallbrought along has been a hot topic within the game’s community. Still, many players agree that certain types ofprimary weapons inDestiny 2are in urgent need of attention, as tankier enemies have resulted in certain weapon archetypes becoming mostly impractical to use. While Bungie remains hard at work in delivering regular hotfixes, the developers have also revealed intentions to review weapon balancing in an upcoming mid-season patch.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
