While Bungie has regularly released substantial new content forDestiny 2’s PvE experiences, the PvP side of the game has been neglected lately. It’s been quite some time sinceDestiny 2’s Crucible has received a new map, but it seems that will change in future.Destiny 2assistant game director Joe Blackburn recently touched on the game’s PvP experience, confirming some of the content that’s in development for the live-service shooter.
In a long Twitter thread, Blackburn discussed theDestinyPvP experience, explaining what the team has been working on lately and what’s planned for future. Blackburn touched onDestiny 2Stasis balancingin PvP and tweaks the team has made to shake up the meta. This re-balancing effort will continue withDestiny 2Season 15, as the developers are changing 3-peaking and revamping the Trials of Osiris.

Blackburn says that the goal is forDestiny 2to start addingnew Crucible mapsand game modes every year, but it will take some time to get that flow going. Things will get started with Season 16, which will see the reappearance of vaultedDestiny 2maps back into PvP rotation. Blackburn didn’t reveal which vaultedDestiny 2Crucible maps will be returning in Season 16, though, so fans will have to standby for more information on that front.
After those vaulted maps come toDestiny 2, fans can expect a brand new PvP map in the game for Season 17, with a remasteredDestiny 1map coming to the game in Season 18. Details on what exactly these maps will entail are unavailable at the time of this writing, but Blackburn did mention that there are a “a bunch of new environments inDestiny 2,” so it seems like they are likely candidates for the new PvP map. TheDestiny 2: Beyond Lightexpansion added Europaas a new location for Guardians to explore, so it seems like a strong candiate for a new Crucible map in the game.
The addition of newDestiny 2maps will go a long way in pleasing fans of the game’s Crucible, but others will want to see new game modes as well. The developers are looking into bringing the fan favoriteDestiny 1Rift modetoDestiny 2, which could happen at some point in 2022. Some brand new game modes are also in the works for release in 2022, so it seemsDestiny 2PvP fans have a lot to look forward to next year.
This is the most transparent Bungie has been aboutDestiny 2’s PvP and its lack of content in quite some time. It’s a good sign that things will finally be turning around for theDestiny 2Crucible in the months and years ahead. In the meantime, fans can tune in to theDestiny 2showcase on August 24to learn more about what changes Bungie has in store for Trials of Osiris specifically.
