The latest patch forDark Souls 3changes the game’s weapon balancing, but fans of the Dark Sword can rest easy knowing that the weapon isn’t being nerfed - yet.

One of the most popular weapons inDark Souls 3is the fittingly-titled Dark Sword, and for obvious reasons. The weapon has a slash-based vertical heavy attack, and allows players to use the stomp technique, which is extremely difficult for enemies to interrupt or stagger. The end result is one of the most overpowered weapons inDark Souls 3, which as quickly risen to fan-favorite status among playerswho made it beyond the tutorial.

Now that the game has been updated to the 1.06 version, many gamers were expecting the Dark Sword to recieve an official nerf fromBandai Namco. The official notes did say that short swords were getting rebalanced, but after a quick data mining job by a Redditor named Textralia, it appears the studio meant daggers, with the short sword wording being the result of a translation error.

As far as data-mining gamers like Textralia have been able to discern, it looks like the Dark Sword remains untouched after the latest update, meaning it should continue to dominate as a fan-favorite weapon for the time being.

Here are the changes to daggers, which all get a percentage increase to their attack rating:

The rest of the information from the patch is based off of fan interpretation, and may not be completely accurate – even so, it’s worth mentioning.

Dual Wielding Weapon Changes

Magic Changes

There may be other weapon-based changes in the game, but without official notes from Bandai Namco, it looks like gamers will be relying on other data-mining players to uncover the details.

The notoriously difficult title has nowshipped more than 3 million units, having already been proclaimed the studio’sfastest-selling title of all time. While many still suspect that the Dark Sword will be nerfed in a future update, it looks like users of the Darkwraith Invaders' go-to weapon is safe for the time being – that is, unless they face off against the player whotook down Pontiff Sulyvahn in one hit. Players would need to be able to fly to take down that guy.

Oh, wait.

Dark Souls 3is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
