Cyberpunk 2077’s popularity never faded away. The game is regarded as a thing of beauty, and even though there were more than a few bumps on the road for CD Projekt Red, ultimately,Cyberpunk 2077is writing gaming history. While everybody is waiting with bated breath for the release of thePhantom Libertyexpansion on September 26th, 2023, a lot of players find themselves already replaying the game and making guesses as to where the new story will takeeveryone’s favorite nobody, V.

One of the things that always stands out while playing the game, is how much need V has for people they can trust. The good thing is that there are a lot of options in the game, and even though some of the people the player meets are not trustworthy, and they will try to trick them, a lot of others have the potential to become good friends with V.
7Jackie Welles
“Jaquito”, as he is lovingly known, ranks higher than any other as a BFF to V, and it is for many reasons. Jackie is the one that brings V to the wonder (and horror) that is Night City. They get to know and trust Jackie from the get-go, unless the player has chosen the Corporate lifepath, in which case Jackie is already a friend, but still manages to save them.
V is completely heartbrokenwhen Jackie diesand even though some people would say that he had it coming, so did V, but they lived to die another day. The feelings of guilt, the need for revenge, and the complicated mission that V found themselves in have all to do with Jackie, and he is one of the most important characters inCyberpunk 2077.
6Viktor Vektor
Viktor is the hot-headed ripperdoc that is there for V from very early on in their journey in the game. Even though he doesn’t make his living completely decently (but who does in Night City?), he accepts an IOU from V when they go to him in need of new implants. Amazingly enough, when V tries togive back the money they oweto him, he refuses it.

But the moment the players see how much Viktor cares about V is when they have to break the news to them that the Relic is inside them and is slowly but steadily overwrites their mind – a.k.a., a death sentence with no way to overturn it. He might seem extra rough to some players, but his actions show compassion and kindness.
5Panam Palmer
Panam has a lot on her plate when players meet her in Night City. She is superbly loyal and manages to be alsohelpful to her clan and Vat the same time, making her one of the most important allies that the player can have in the game.
Panam is also a romance option for male V, but it doesn’t alter much of the intended relationship players can have with her. There are a lot of options as to how far the friendship is going to go between V and Panam, and it all depends on the player’s choices. In some cases, Panam can even help with the final mission, making her the only romance option who can fight for and with V at the end.
4River Ward
River Ward is also a romance option for a female V, but he can just as well be a very good and trustworthy friend to whichever genre the player chooses. Even though it feels like V is helping River more than he helps them, he is always keen on sharing his home and memories and tries to be of help as much as he can. It is, in some ways,an unlikely friendship, since Ward is an ex-NCPD detective and V is a Merc.

Mercenaries and cops don’t usually mix well, but in this case, they both make an exception for each other, and it is to their mutual benefit. Depending on the player’s choices, River and V can go into one of the most disturbing side missions in the whole game.
3Rogue Amendiares
Rogue might technically bea BFF of Johnny Silverhandand not of V, but she can come very close to V as well, depending on the decisions the player makes. She might be one of the few people that V chooses to call for help on the final mission.
The “Queen of the Afterlife” is certainly a very high-tempered woman that can seem to care for nobody else apart from herself, but under the correct circumstances, she reveals to both V and Johnny how much she cares for them and their future. She has a very strong sense of what’s right and what’s wrong, but she is willing to part with it for her friends.
2Judy Alvarez
Judy is there since early in the game, and she shows V that she can be trusted. Judy has a protective shell around her, but within her is a very tender and caring person towards her friends, as well asan incredible intellect, and it can be seen in the way she mourns Evelyn Parker. Later, she proves to V again and again that she can be trusted, and if the player chooses female V, then Judy can be a romance option as well.

One of the most beautiful moments in the game is when Judy takes V for a dive in a lake, and they see the underwater remains of where Judy grew up. She has one of the best endings -and well deserved-, because she gets to leave Night City and start a new life.
1Johnny Silverhand
One of the most amazing features ofCyberpunk 2077, is that the player has the choice to play the whole game as ifJohnny is their enemyor as if Johnny is their friend (or even interchangeable). That might sound like a pretty normal thing to do in RPGs, but given that Johnny lives inside V’s head, the matter is a lot more complicated.
The player is given the choice to increase their friendship with Johnny, but it can never go above 70%, which is a very clever wink from the writers that these two could never have a fairytale friendship, with their characters and goals, and, of course, the fact that they co-exist in a body that keeps failing them.
