AsCall of Duty: Warzone 2players look forward to the arrival of the battle royale’s Season 2, they look back on the developer’s previous timeline for the release of Private Match functionality.Warzone 2Season 2 is expected to release on February 1. Leaks indicate there will be a new Operator, potentially a new Resurgence map, and much more. Whether or not Private Match functionality is added remains a mystery, butWarzoneplayers are hopeful, nonetheless.Private Matches are, as the name implies, a custom game mode allowing players to create private multiplayer rooms either for themselves or squads of invitees. It was ahighly requested feature forCall of Duty: Warzoneand was eventually added in 2020, but has been absent fromCall of Duty: Warzone 2as not all features carried over in the sequel. Unsurprisingly, the return of Private Matches have been one of players' most requested features since launch.RELATED:Rumor: Warzone 2 Could Get New Resurgence Map With the Launch of Season 2There is no official update on the status ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2’s Private Matches, but Dexerto recently pulled up notes from a December interview withWarzone 2’s developers with the most up-to-date information on the subject. As of just a couple of weeks ago, Private Matches forWarzone 2were described as in development and planned for “early next year.”
No further information regarding the release plans for Private Matches inWarzone 2was provided. The developers did say, however, that they have an expanded scope forWarzone 2that goes beyond what was previously available inWarzone. A “variety of features” will be added, is how it was described. Since the interview was just half a month ago, it’s unlikely that plans have changed in the time since.
WhatCall of Duty: Warzone 2playersare hoping is that “early next year” will translate into Private Matches arriving with the launch of Season 2. There has been no official indication that this is true, yet. However, if “early next year” doesn’t translate to February then there may not be another opportunity for such a large feature launch during winter 2023. Unless the developers meant the first half of 2023, it’s either Season 2’s launch or a likely delay.
It’s unclear at this point in time when official information regardingCall of Duty: Warzone 2Season 2will be shared. But with less than a month before the new season’s expected release date, that news has to be coming soon. It may or may not include Private Matches, but hopefully the feature will still be arriving “early” 2023, regardless.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
