After plenty of hype and build-up,Borderlands 3is now available for all gamers to enjoy. Unfortunately, the enjoyment part isn’t working out quite as people had hoped, at least for those players utilizing split-screen.

Borderlands 3hasn’t had the smoothest launch ever. Fans have already been up in arms aboutBorderlands 3’s split-screen lag, which has reportedly made the game nigh unplayable when one player has their ECHO device open. Unfortunately, the problems don’t stop there.

Prior iterations ofBorderlandsgames have offered the option to utilize vertical split-screen. This splits the screen down the middle from top to bottom, which is ideal for the average wide-screen television in this day and age. It also ensures that one player can sit on the left and one on the right and see their characters equally well.

Regrettably, Gearbox Software made the decision to utilizehorizontal split-screen, rather than vertical. Gamers aren’t too happy about the decision. For the average widescreen television, it’s making the game very difficult to play and text almost impossible to read, as each player’s portion of the screen is tiny.

To make matters worse, Gearbox Software has already addressed the issue after fans repeatedly Tweeted at the company in an effort to bring its attention to it. While it was suggested by fans that the company might patch the problem, Gearbox has openly stated that it has no plans to release a patch to allow switching to vertical split-screen.

While critics have primarilypraisedBorderlands 3, problems like these have kept players from feeling quite as happy with the game. Split-screen is used by console players, but PC players aren’t happy, either. Many gamers with high-caliber gaming rigs have reported severe lag issues, leading players to believe thatBorderlands 3is poorly optimized. This has created a large rift between player and reviewer scores.

While Gearbox has already openly stated that it won’t make any changes, with any luck, continued fan outcries will change the developer’s mind.

Borderlands 3is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
