Summary
Avengers 5andAvengers: Secret Warsmay have settled on a plan for Kang the Conqueror after Jonathan Majors was fired from the role.
AfterMarvel Studios fired Majors from the Kang roleimmediately after he was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment, the company was forced to decide whether to recast the character or add a new villain to the MCU’s overarching multiverse saga. After several rumors and reports about Kang’s role being dropped or diminished, the latest rumor suggests Marvel Studios is not done with Kang the Conqueror. Still, they may need to add another adversary to the next twoAvengersmovies.

Daniel Richtmanreports that Marvel Studios has decided to keep Kang as the main villain ofAvengers 5andAvengers: Secret Wars. However, the company also wants to add another villain to the Multiverse saga, though the identity of this new foe was not divulged and may not have been decided. This rumor, which has not been verified by Marvel Studios, contradicts previous reports thatAvengers 5would drop Kang entirelyor minimize his role, claims that fans believed were correct after Marvel Studios officially removedThe Kang Dynastysubtitle fromAvengers 5.
Regardless of how substantial the character’s role may be, the rumors and verified reports on Kang’s future in the MCU all point to the villain remaining on board for the MCU’s multiverse saga. Recasting the character could be a daunting task, as Majors' performance was widely praised and many regarded his portrayal as one of the only high points of the pannedAnt-Man 3. Fortunately, therumored contenders for Majors replacement as Kang, including Colman Domingo and John David Washington, have all proven themselves to be talented in their own right, assuring fans that there’s no shortage of gifted actors to play the nextAvengersvillain.
As for who the second Avengers villain could be, fans are likely hoping for Doctor Doom. The infamous Fantastic Four foe is one of the more obvious Marvel villains worthy of being an Avengers-level threat and played a significant role in versions of theSecret Warsstoryline in the comics. While introducing such a prominent villain so late into the multiverse saga may be difficult, fans have proposed severalways to introduce Doctor Doom to the MCUthat are befitting of a villain of his stature.
Of course,Doctor Doom is not the only potential Kang replacement. Marvel Studios has several options when finding another villain worthy of succeeding Thanos as the Avengers' greatest foe. The only question is how effectively can they introduce a second villain toAvengers 5andSecret Warswithout it feeling forced, and can this new villain be an equal to Kang without making the Conqueror feel unnecessary? Time will tell, and fans are undoubtedly curious to know the answer sooner rather than later.
