Assassin’s Creed Originswas the most talked about game at E3 2017, according to newly revealed statistics. During the annual industry event, Ubisoft officially announced the game and confirmed that it is set in Egypt.
According to data released by ICO Partners,Assassin’s Creed Originsgot the most coverage of any game at E3 2017. Almost 2,500 articles were published about the game during the course of event which is due to the game’s place in the Ubisoft and Microsoft press conferences, ICO CEO Thomas Bideaux says.
Thanks to the Xbox One X, theMicrosoft press conference was the most talked about event of E3 2017according to data revealed last week. Since the firstAssassin’s Creed Originsgameplay footage was shown on the new Xbox One console, it makes sense that the game would feel the effects of that hype.
In second place is BioWare’s new IPAnthem, whileStar Wars Battlefront 2sits in third. For several months, fans had been champing at the bit for news about the BioWare game, so the interest is no surprise. No doubt, thecomparisons betweenAnthemandDestiny 2will have also helped.
As forStar Wars Battlefront 2, many have been waiting to see if EA and DICE can deliver on promises to create a fantastic single player mode to compliment its multiplayer gameplay. The amount of articles about the game suggest that the game is making the right noises so far. The game also had themost watched trailerof the event.
Fourth place went to Bethesda’s fantasy RPG,Skyrim, which got almost 2,000 articles due to the announcement ofSkyrim VRfor PlayStation VR andSkyrimfor the Nintendo Switch. Meanwhile,Destiny 2landed in fifth place with less than 2,000 articles published about it. Given that Bungie had already released a lot of information about the game prior to E3 2017, this may not be such a huge shocker.
The ICO Partners data may not necessarily translate into sales for all of the games included in its data. The announcement ofAssassin’s Creed Originsmay have been exciting, but it’s also a huge game with many features, meaning that more coverage was to be expected. Plus, four of the 15 games that ICO included in its data will not be released until 2018 or beyond, meaning that any E3 2017 hype could have fizzled out by then. Nonetheless, the data is still incredibly interesting.
