While fans ofAssassin’s Creed Odysseyare getting to enjoy the first episode of the action RPG’sLegacy of the First Blade DLC, they are doing so with one of the two protagonists: Alexios or Kassandra. And here recently, the game’s director Scott Phillips revealed how many players chose Alexios and how many chose Kassandra during an interview concerning the game’s development.
The results, according to Phillips, were somewhat surprising. It’s worth mentioning that during the play tests, the split between Alexios and Kassandra was roughly 50/50. Phillips even believed the final numbers would showcase a bit more favoritism toward Kassandra whenAssassin’s Creed Odysseyfully launched, but it was actually quite the opposite.

As it stands, the player usage stats indicate that the player divide between the two protagonists is “two-third Alexios” and “one-third Kassandra.” Considering that Kassandra isthe canon protagonist, one can definitely understand Phillips' surprise. That’s not to say, however, that this was the only surprise for Phillips and theAssassin’s Creed Odysseydevelopment team.
In fact, according to Phillips, many of the choices made by the players was surprising to the team. Phillips did stop short of revealing all of those exact details, but this is likely due to how heavily choices weighed inAssassin’s Creed Odyssey.Considering players could take a cutthroat mercenary or a homesick protector path throughout the game, many players may have considered their choices carefully.
All things considered,Assassin’s Creed Odysseyhas been incredibly successful withthe best launch salesof the franchise on current-gen consoles. It is likely due to choices made possible throughout the game, beginning but certainly not ending with whether to play as Alexios or Kassandra. AlthoughOriginsintroduced RPG elements into the franchise, it seems safe to say thatOdysseyperfected it to the betterment of the franchise.
