AnAssassin’s Creedanime series was announced today by Adi Shankar, the producer behind the upcomingCastlevaniaNetflix series.
Shankar made the announcement through his own Facebook page, where he revealed the series will be telling a wholly original story. Aside from that minor detail, not much else was disclosed – not the network it will premiere on or even its title. Being a fan ofAssassin’s Creed, Shankar expressed his surprise and delight by the recent development.
I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project! I played the first edition ofAssassin’s Creedthe year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.
While Shankar states that Ubisoft approached him with the project, the company hasn’t made any kind of announcement of its own, which could mean the show in the very early stages of production. Though Ubisoft did confirm anAssassin’s Creedtelevision show was in the worksa few months back.
Shankar is the showrunner for the upcomingCastlevaniaNetflix series, which premieres on July 7. He recentlyannounced the series' castthrough his personal YouTube channel, where he co-hosted a video with Graham McTavish, who voices Dracula.
Shankar’s work onCastlevaniawill surely be scrutinized by fans, which will affect their expectations of theAssassin’s Creedseries. That is sure to put some extra pressure on the budding producer. That being said,Castlevaniadoesn’t appear to be in any danger of disappointing. It’srecent trailerwas an encouraging look at the series; though it could have benefitted by expanding on the story a tad.
At this point it’s impossible to tell whether theAssassin’s Creedanime series will be able to capture the appeal of the games, but it’s comforting to know it’s being produced by a passionate fan. We hope it at least fares better than the feature film, which currently holds an 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
