InAnthem, the endgame is all about loot. First comes kitting out a Javelin in purple Epic-Quality items. Then comes jumping the divide from purples to orange Masterwork-quality and yellow Legendary-quality gear. For now, putting together a squad of capable friends and burning through Strongholds and Freeplay world events may be the most profitable and efficient farming method. But sometimes a less stressful alternative is preferred, in which case chest farming is a perfect choice.
How Chest Farming Works inAnthem
Chest farming is usually a term used to describe aFreeplayroute in which multiple chest spawns are mapped out. Players can travel to each point of the map with ease, check to see if the chest has spawned and loot it if it has, and then fly on to the next one. Given the casual nature of chest farming and the lack of combat, players can ramp up the difficulty to Grandmaster 3, the highest in the game. It’s assumed that this improves the odds of Masterwork and Legendary loot dropping.
However, while chest farming was once the easiest and fastest way to earn loot inAnthem, BioWare recently implementeda patch nerfing the looting method. Much like Bungie did withDestiny’s original Loot Cave, theAnthemdeveloper took quick notice of the farm and reduced the quality of the loot found in Freeplay treasure chests. Luckily, the loot in GM3 Freeplay treasure chests still seems to be of decent quality. For players without the means to do more difficult content, or for those just looking to relax while farming, it’s still a great option.
Before breaking down the current popularAnthemchest run itself, keep in mind that it’s only one such option. The best route is for players to simply go with what works. There are chests throughoutAnthem’s world, and if it means players need to knock down the difficulty or do other events in-between finding chests, then do what’s most successful. That said, theFort TarsisFreeplay chest run is a great opportunity to get plenty of loot fast and with ease, while also learning how chest spawns work inAnthem.
The aboveAnthemFort Tarsis chest farm route was put together by Twitch streamer DatModz and put into a polished map by Reddit user ayerun. The path includes over 30 potential chest spawns. All players have to do is fly over the location and look for a chest glowing with a white/blue light. The route was designed to stay away from combat, though it’s unfortunately unavoidable. After completing the route, it’s best to leave the server and rejoin a new one.
Running this chest farm route is best done with afull squad. Being in a full group means that players aren’t competing with other solo-farmers who may be ahead of them on the route. That doesn’t mean that the route isn’t solo-friendly, just that if players do go in solo that they should look to see where the other players on the server are and either catch up with them on the route or wait a couple of minutes to give some time for chests to respawn.
Chests typically spawn around small camps, inside tunnels, or under cliffs. Underwater chests, on the other hand, will spawn at the very bottom of the body of water and in an open area. The best advice for a chest farm is to be attentive, and watch for the burst of bluish light that flashes when a chest comes into visual range.
Don’t spend too much time looking for a chest spawn location that seems iffy. If the chest has spawned, it’s easy to see. Chests that are very difficult to see from a reasonable distance are extremely rare.
This aforementioned chest spawn route is currently the most popular one inAnthemas of theOrigin Access and EA Accessearly launch. Don’t be surprised if BioWare alters how chests spawn or what kind of loot is found inside chests in the weeks to come, though, as there will surely be some changes followingAnthem’s full launch.
