Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniadirector Peyton Reed revealed that the superhero sequel has officially commenced filming.Originally scheduled for a 2022 release, Marvel Studios’Ant-Man 3is slated to premiere in 2023.
Written by Jeff Loveness (Rick and Morty),Ant-Man 3stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. Franchise newcomer Kathryn Newton (Freaky, Big Little Lies) will play an older version of Lang’s daughter Cassie. Jonathan Majors, who notably played He Who Remains in the hit Disney Plus seriesLoki, will portray the villainous Kang the Conqueror.Loki’s season one finalerevealed that Majors’ He Who Remains created the Time Variance Authority and was a version of Kang the Conqueror the whole time.

Reed celebrated the start ofAnt-Man 3filmingby sharing an image of Cassie’s terrifying bunny doll on social media. “It begins. Day One - Principal Photography,” said the filmmaker in the caption. Rudd’s Lang notably gifted the bunny to his daughter in 2015’sAnt-Man. The toy also appeared as an easter egg in the second film, and it appears that the bunny plushie will make an appearance in the upcoming threequel. Reed, who notably directed two episodes ofThe Mandalorianand 2000’sBring It On, helmed the first two films in theAnt-Manfranchise.
The typically tight-lipped Marvel Studios has yet to sharedetails onAnt-Man 3’s plot. The film is looking to build off the success ofAnt-Man and the Wasp, which earned positive reviews from critics and grossed over $622 million worldwide. Fans last saw Rudd’s Lang attend Tony Stark’s funeral with Hope and her resurrected parents inAvengers: Endgame. Ant-Man/Scott Lang was created by David Michelinie, Bob Layton, and John Byrne, and first appeared in 1979’sThe Avengers#181.
Ant-Man 3is one of several Phase Four Marvel Studios films that will premiere over the next two years. Daniel Cretton’sShang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Ringswill hit theatres this September. The 25th film in the MCU will seeShang-Chi (Simu Liu) attempt to take down The Ten Rings, a terrorist organization created by his villainous father Wenwu.Shang-Chihas garnered attention for being the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian protagonist.
